Bro saying that Jalen Green is a complentary piece to Amen Thompson on the offensive end is unhinged. That is your claim. And we aren't even talking about one dude being like 19 and has significantly more headroom for development and one dude is 26 and in his prime. They are 22 and 23 respectively. Amen has DPOY potential in his cards. He's still a complentary piece on offense and this team's offense is run through Green and Sengun primarily.
Honestly this is such a stupid take. Ya Trae Young has gravity because he turns the ball over. Dude come on? There are some Jalen Green haters who want to come in and come on your side but see the horrible arguments you are putting up. @astrosrule is begging for you to form a more reasonable argument so he can say something beyond platitudes about me being a aggressive debater.
Jalen Green is not a commentary piece to Amen Thompson on the offensive end. Yes anyone who doesn't agree with me 100% on this one claim is someone who doesn't pay attention to Rocket games.
I've been every critical of Jalen during the Silas years and even last year but I keep my word when earlier in the season I said, I would never doubt JG again as our starting SG. I think JG has changed over time, he has grown in his own way. Yes, he tries on defense which is key but his decision making is also visibly better than in the earlier years. When he drives into the paint, he makes the pass to cutters unlike before where he would just turn over the ball. Personally, I don't want him to be traded for the likes of Booker or KD. I'd be much more inclined these days to move Whitmore who doesn't really fit on this team but I'm sure he'll excel elsewhere. He has the potential to be a star, but just not in Houston under our current circumstance.
He said amen isn’t at the level of being a complementary piece yet, what you’re saying isn’t remotely close to what he said. You’re just making up crap like always.
Come again? The funniest part about this claim is @Houston77 saying this claim during a near two month stretch bwwdies one game where Jalen Green has been dominating the ball handling duties in the fourth quarter. We are talking about a career high in Green's unassisted rate on fgs made, leading the league in gravity, being my given more primary ball handling duties from Ime and this guy is like "yo this season has shown Green is being groomed to be a complentary piece". Jalen Green has never been more on ball than he has been this season. Hell he was more of a "complentary piece" when KPJ was his back court running mate and Silas was the head coach. Get the **** out of here. That is some doggy doodoo analysis.
You are really acting strange. Point to where I said "Green is developing into a complementary piece to Amen offensively." That's not at all what I said. I said, "Green is developing into a complementary piece next to Amen and Sengun." I never said he's doing so solely on the offensive end. I said he's developing as a complementary piece IN GENERAL, hence his significant focus on defense to the potential detriment of his offense. I mean, do I really have to break this down for you like a five year old? Amen is a defensive virtuoso who has some decent handles and has playmaking potential. Sengun is a dynamic offensive hub with great post moves who can put incredible pressure on a defense as a passing savant. Now, when you think of those two player profiles, what type of player fits best? The Harden mold of a one-way, high usage guard who needs the ball to be most effective? Or a more traditional shooting guard who can create offball, space with volume 3s, and plays solid defense? Obviously the latter mold fits our team better, even though it is more of a "complementary" player than the former.
"He's a complementary piece, don't accuse me of calling him a complementary piece" Bro Jalen Green not being the best defender on our team like Amen is doesn't make him a complentary piece. People use "complentary piece" for off ball role players. It's a term used to describe offensive roles. Do you understand that?
You should probably inform Ime to allow Jalen to be this complementary piece with a off ball role because statistically he's never been more on ball than this season. This is his highest amount of pnr primary ball handler possessions in his career. Highest amount of drives per game. Highest usage rate. Highest rate of unassisted fgs made. He has never been more on ball than he has been this season and you are day dreaming about Green being some off ball role player. Get the **** out of here.
No. Complementary, as a descriptor, means just that - to enhance the greater purpose. Green is obviously focused on developing parts of his game that complement Sengun and Amen's, and they are doing so as well, hence why Amen is obviously working on his 3 ball, and Sengun is focusing on his defense. Frankly, it seems you would prefer a worse team where Jalen is a 35%+ usage player as opposed to a better team where he is merely the lead scorer.
Let's clear up some framing here. Are you saying all three guys complement each other or are you saying Green specifically is the complentary piece to a guy who plays the dunker spot role on offense most of the time and Sengun? If you want to say all three complement each other, sure. But if you are saying Green, a guy Ime trusts to be the primary ball handler in the fourth quarter, who has the most on ball reps on the team who attacks POA defenses the most on the team is complentary to Amen then ya I vehemently disagree.
"Gravity" has a lot to do with the teammates you play with and the scheme your team uses. It doesn't necessarily means that the guy is so skilled defenses are trying to stop him at all cost. It also has something to do with how good the guy is in distributing the ball when he's being trapped or doubled. If they know you don't pass well, they'll trap you hard and force either a bad shot or a TO. Jalen has improved in his passing lately. I'm pleased. But what you constantly post might at least partially have something to do with teams not respecting Jalen's passing.
If I'm a NBA defensive coach using this philosophy to blitz Green I should be fired because mathematically it doesn't make sense as the times Green creates a 4 on 3 advantage for his teammates in those situations far outnumber the times he turns over the ball making it a horrible choice statistically.
I mean, I don't know how much clearer I can be. Now that it is obvious that Green, Amen, and Sengun are our best prospects, it is apparent that they are each refining their respective games to complement the other two. For Green, that means more volume 3 shooting and a greater focus on his defense. You want framing, so let's frame it - let's say, rather than the team built as it is, we instead kept Jarrett Allen, didn't draft Sengun, and ended up with some really strong 3-and-D wings. In that scenario, Green would better "complement" that team in a Harden role - ball dominant, ISO, greater focus on offense than defense. I do think Green could probably thrive in such a role, but that mold just wouldn't work on this team, so he's instead developing more into a traditional shooting guard. That's a good thing.
It is because the gravity metric they are measuring is purely about primary defender on and off ball. Since Shai and jokic has a slower style of play, their primary defenders do not need to stay as close. It is not gravity in the sense of overall attention they get. Even Sengun has more gravity than Green in that sense.
See my answer to Houston77, The gravity metric is about primary defender. Has nothing to do with being doubled. That's why the list is full of shooting guards and not players like jokic.
No. Bball index even says it's about all defenders on the court and how they play said offensive player being measured. For example, if multiple help defenders hedge more to block Green's potential driving lanes that is part of gravity and is calculated using optical tracking to measure the average distance of all defenders on the court. Big men like Alpi are not on this list because their gravity is more situational as in no one cares about Alpi's precense if he isn't posting up with the ball in his hands while Green's gravity is more omnipresent.
