I was wondering if any of you bbsers could help me out, I am thinking of buying a digital camera and was wondering wondering what a good kind was. I am not looking for the absolute best kind or anything. Just one good enough for pictures i send to family/friends
How much are you looking to spend and do you want a small digital camera that is portable etc? You can always check out Cnet.com for the best reviews on them cause you can sort them out by pricing and megapixel size.
If you are just going to use it to send email, then megapixel digicam is just fine. But if you are going to use it for printing out pics also, I would suggest going with one that is 3Megapixel at the most and have some kind of optical zoom. you can easily get them pretty cheap, around less than $100. If you look on Ebay and get lucky, you may find one even less than that. I bought a Toshiba 3MP with a 3x optical zoom for like $50 shipped last April.
Right now i have a Sony Cybershot t-1 and i am about to buy a Nikon Cool Pix 5700 from Comp since i have a friend working there to take better scenic shots or when i am at games since the t-1 is more for just going out and taking pics with friends and stuff like that. Other than that i love the little t-1 it's amazing and i can take it anywhere.
I don't recommend anything less than 3MP. I'm not endorsing this camera because I haven't done any research on it... but dang... 5MP for $249 OLYMPUS C-5000
Reveiews on it look pretty good for the most part. http://reviews.cnet.com/4852-6501_7-30520515.html?tag=uo
If you want a cheapy there was a thread a few months ago. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77075
make sure you get a camera with a rechargble li-ion battery (lithium ion). those AA batteries sure do wear out fast otherwise.
elph all the way baby. I've had one for about 3 years. Super simple, small size, takes pics and movies. The BEST ever! You'll be happy if you get one.
If you want to look for reviews and consumer reviews of cameras try the following sites : http://www.dpreview.com http://www.steves-digicams.com
Agreed; the T1 is unreal. Everybody I know is envious; it's amazing quality, but it's still a "point-and-shoot" but exceptional at that. It's honestly somewhat comparable to a professional camera since the quality is amazing. The video feature is so cool as well. The flash is absolutely horrible when it's dark, but I rarely take night or poorly-lit shots. Coincidentally, with the amateur "freelance" photography I've done with the yearbook here, I've used the Nikon 5700. It's truly a quality camera for professional use. Now, the reason I wanted the Sony T1 was because it was small and lightweight so it fits in my pocket and goes everywhere I go (which definitely paid off when I met Shaq last month) and again the quality is superb. It's expensive but worth it if you want something small. Anything above 3 MP is fantastic. Since 5 MP is becoming the "norm" for cameras, a high-quality 3 MP (Sony, Nikon, etc; depends on model) will be a lot cheaper on ebay.
Ok, I think I found a camera I like, but I have another question, will I have to get a flashcard as well? I dont plan on printing pictures out, so will it be ok not to get a flashcard and still be able to hook my camera to my computer and view images that way and then send em in e-mails and what not?
No, as far as I know you need the card. It is where the digital pictures are stored. There generally isn't any memory on the camera itself - none that I've seen.
