Man, I can never watch anything Houston when it's this close at the end of the game and the game can go either way. My heart and stomach can't take it, so I tuned out with a couple minutes left in the game and then with 1 minute or so saw it was getting closer while checking the score on an app. Didn't have the guts to turn the game on and jinx it, so I waited until about 30 minutes after I thought the game would be over and was like "damn... they really did that? To DUKE?!" lol. Awesome win. But.... 1 more to go, and I'm guessing it won't be easy, either. Good luck, Coogs, but even if they don't win, they won the season for me by eliminating Duke. I also want them to win to let Koa Peat know what it's like to win something meaningful....(I know you're watching Koa).
I have no stakes in this, but I like that Kelvin Sampson and Houston basketball is getting love so of course I wanted UH to win, but that was quite an awful call that late. Let the players decide, especially if it was hardly anything. The crazy thing is they are just like the Rockets, very locked in defensively, rely a lot on offensive rebounding and not quitting. UH black jerseys are hideous, but man at least they have 1000% better font than the Rockets. We should learn from these designs.
it was a foul, but not one I would have called in the moment. but game changer? hardly. had it changed possession you might have a point, but Houston had the rebound secured, and it put a 62% FT shooter on the line. and Duke still had a chance, down one, and had the putative best player in the country with the ball in his hands, and the shot he wanted, Houston's heart and defense won this:
As someone who was there a decade ago when nobody went to games, watching this evolution led by Coach Sampson has been incredible.
I may be just a prisoner of the moment, but I feel a blowout coming on. Could be us, could be them. I just feel like someone is going to run away with this one.
That would be quite a let down, if us. I'm trying to remember the Miami game, the last time explosive guards just destroyed us. Defensively, are we better able to contain that? Are our rotations and length better? I know offensively, we can score better than then, but I don't remember how different our defense was back then. I really hope Florida gets turnover happy and suck at defensive rebounding. Those are their potential weaknesses, even though that have tall bigs.
I was sipping on a thc can which is new to me and leveled up my game experience. Wife said I've never seen you this into sports.
i didnt follow florida but just looking at their roster, they seem comparable to a team like arizona or at least in terms of size. some size in their front court and a dynamic guard. i get that caleb love is the ultimate streaky shooter, but when he's on, hes as good as any other guard in the nation. its going to be tough, but there is nothing that this team hasnt already seen this year.
Pti and around the horn were the only redeemable shows. They cancelled around the horn. Last i watched espn, Stephen a was yelling about something. i miss the 90s espn. Every team got coverage. Stuart Scott, Kenny Mayne etc. Good times.
Florida's game seems to be counterpunching. Their size and athleticism cause turnovers and they get out and run. This is a kind of team we struggled to deal with early this year, but over the years Sampson has handled these teams well. If we keep the pace slow I think we will break their will on offense and they will just start chucking.
I expect all the guys outside of LJ to bounce back next game, ive been hard on Cryer all year and said that he would have to carry the offensive load for us to have a chance. He carried us last game and dont expect him to do it again. Hoping Jwan and Uzan play to their normal selves and we end up hoisting that trophy for the first time in school History. Go Coogs!!
So, don't turn it over and score every time down the court. Our offensive efficiency may be more important than our base defense.
I can see the headlines now: Flagg gets bounced by the University of Houston only to get drafted by the Houston Rockets with the #1 pick.
