Reed has a chance to be really, really good. My take is similar to where it was even when he was struggling. I think he's more boom or bust than I had coming out of the draft with both a higher ceiling and a lower floor. I don't really see him in the league 7 years from now as a 10th/11th man. He's either going to be a top ~80 (and maybe much higher) player or out of the league.
Funny stat about Reed and why this draft and the rookies have been so bad: He has the 7th best VORP and the 11th best BPM in this rookie class. Of the 14 lottery picks, he has the 3rd best VORP. Pretty sad rookie class so far. Even by something like ws/48 he's been better than guys like risacher, castle, sarr. If your goal this season is to win, of the top 4 picks Reed has been pretty clearly the best.
Pretty impressive despite the mismanagement he's had to overcome. Part of the reason for the numbers is that even when his shot wasn't falling he still managed to positively impact the game most of the time he managed to see the floor.
Ya, his stocks and all that make his defense more valuable than someone like castle. Castle has 0.1 more win shares in 1438 minutes, and people here pretend he hasn’t been complete and utter trash this season, all just because they hate reed.
Game still going but Reed has made 17 of his last 33 3pters (51.5%!!!!) over his last 10 games. This is a great joker card to be holding before the playoffs, even if it's just as a situational one way shooter. It's such a small sample size, but Sheppard doesn't need to handle the ball to earn the start for us next season - we have 3 playmakers in Sengun/Amen/Green. He can just be a 3&D guard mostly if he can put on some muscle for that defensive effort to become useful. Sengun Jabari Amen Green Sheppard
100% if Reed Sheppard was drafted by any other team he's the hands down ROY. The only guy who can stop him is Ime Udoka
It's nice to know you can put him in the game now. He's grown a lot this year playing against a super competitive squad. I think this team was the best place he could have gone to grow the right way with a system designed by holding players accountable and refining their game. He should be getting real floor time next year.
Now that Reed Sheppard has played well in both games where he's allowed to just play major minutes in low-stakes situations, I think one can be fairly optimistic about him going forward. Both the OKC game and this Clippers game had stakes for the other team, so these aren't all garbage time stats. Imagine Jalen Green putting up these stats in a game against a playoff team 3 years ago, people would be discussing future stardom. Hopefully the Rockets give him another game or two to run the offense and get him some confidence going into the playoffs.
Lol, I don't know about hands down ROY but he would definitely be in the running. And I don't blame Ime like you do, I think not playing him is the right decision for this team. But if he had an opportunity to play through mistakes on some dogshit <30 win tanking team...I think the basketball world has a very different opinion of Sheppard. He definitely would be in the running for ROY, and who knows, maybe he would be the runaway leader.
I'll just correct you on one thing: Jalen Green had random big games against playoff teams since the second half of his rookie season, the only question was whether he could do it more consistently/frequently and within a winning environment. It did not result in the board believing he'd be a star. If you called Green a star 3 years ago, you were considered a crazy homer.
@roslolian It's safe to say I did not think I would tag you this quickly. But this is the first of many many times I do so. Six 3-pointers. That would be 11 3's in the last 48 minutes he has played going 11-18. Jabari and Sheppard are going to give the Rockets so much space it's gonna be glorious. This will be fun. AND you can only do something the first time once!
He still probably won't get any minutes in the playoffs because Ime doesn't want to f up his defensive rotations.
