HAHA, look at that, a thread title with some brackets Cannot confirm for sure. But this poster from this website here says that Star 790 KBME is going to flip to sports talk radio, with Fox Sports being their provided program. It's saying that as of January 1st, 2005, 790 will be a sports talk radio. And yes, CC does own 790. Oh joy. So Chance, does this mean Jim Rome is moving to 790, because Premiere is a thingy of CC?
This has been long talked about. KBME is has a rather powerful transmitter, so it has some importance for CC. There was talk about this so they could move the Astros off of KTRH. Even if they do, they would have a hard time filling their lineup. ESPN radio is still the premier network and the best local sports personalities are on KILT. I don't see that really changing.
I remember her hosting a show with Jim Edmonds (?). Was 790 Dan Patrick-owned? I remember when he managed to run 700 and I think 950. Of course I remember the time when John Lander was on 790 and it was a pop music station simulcasting to 93 FM. ~~ Good morning from the Q.... mo - orning zoo..."
Isn't SR610 one of the original Rome stations though? I'd have to imagine he'd have a little say over what station he was on.
I was listening to the Red Sox-Yankees game 6 on 790 on the way home last Tuesday, was wondering why the hell it was on a station i never heard of.
I won't say the name of who said this to me...... but along the way I have talked to someone with Clear Channel Houston and they said that the only way 790 would be flipped to sports is if, "Jim Rome was pulled off of 610". However, the Astros most likely wouldn't move to 790 because its a weaker signal than KTRH and also because the Astros contract with Clear Channel has been in effect for awhile.... but as everyone knows everything is negotible. Take this for what its worth....
i live in austin and we have two sports radio stations. believe me, they'll have plenty of CRAP to fill the lineup. here we have 1300 which is fox (and carries jim rome) and 1260/1530 which is espn (and carries dan patric.) 1300 used to be the longhorns/cowboys/spurs radio network. when espn came to town they took the cowboys away. now 1300 does the Texans. both stations are FULL of local-yokels bantering about all day.
Yeah, Dallas has three sports stations and all three seem to be somewhat popular. I'd gladly welcome another station. I like 610 well enough, but it'd be nice to have an alternative other than shutting off the radio when people start to piss me off. Nothing bad ever came out of a little healthy competition.
I can't stand Rome or Patrick for that matter. Dibble actually has some decent things to say during the Patrick show.
They sucked though....never liked them...they were so bland and boring...nothing ever exciting and new. They just grew old and Chronicle kept on moving forward.
