I think you're right...but will it negatively impact him (mentally) if he's sent down so quickly? We all saw how long Bregman and Tucker took to do anything when they first came up, but then again they did play in the minors much more.
I think he’s probably right as well but as long as he’s on the roster Espada has to stop benching him. Something tells me he will be on the bench again Saturday.
I remember a time when technology / analytics / sports conditioning was flaunted by the Texans too... what happened, Houston?? Had to stick with what they know bc their "consultants" or "technical analysts" hit their career ceiling without innovating... as such a tale of Houston economic vertical career mobility. HIRE THE BEST, BRIGHTEST INNOVATORS WHO BRING TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE TO SPORTS FRANCHISES. Have the best GD hospital-medical-health "CITY" in the lower 48 and they're still playing pick up sticks or tiddly winks. GTFOH w that noise. LEVEL TF UP + GET **** PAST TOGETHER AND SCALE / INNOVATE SPORTS MEDICINE EDGE'S FOR YOUR PLAYERS. Frustrates me to hell thinking about & knowing the lack of applications / intent with the seemingly lack of technological R&D/innovation. (If it aint being talked about and flaunted, it aint being used.)
Who says no to a 6 year 100M extension to Hunter brown right now? He’s made after this year about 2.5M in his career. It’s likely his arb awards if all goes well will be something like 5M-6M, 10-12M, 15-18M. thats essentially a 3/60 extension of everything works out ok. He goes from having enough money in his bank account to rent a nice place in pearland or midtown to generational wealth and skips over concerns with shredding his arm. the Astros now would carry that risk. On the other side/ if he stays healthy and on this trajectory he joins Yordan as one of the absolute best values in all of baseball and the astros get his entire prime of 9 years for like 103M. I’d do it as either party.
If Smith is on the roster he needs to start at least 5 of 6 games. Dezenzo needs the same playing time, but can't get it. The only way both Meyers and McCormick deserve to be on this roster, is if they decide Dubon is not an OF and never start him on the grass. If Dubon is the backup CF, then either Chas or Jake need to be gone to open up more playing time for Cam and Zach.
I agree with the first part but how does Chas or Jake being gone open up playing time for Cam and Zach?
I don't want to react much to any result this early in the season, but given his age there are some very alarming peripherals for Altuve right now.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025...h-astros-contains-advance-consent-clause.html Interesting details on Rodgers’ contract. He can be released anytime before mid May without his contract being guaranteed. He also can be optioned to AAA without his consent (although he can opt out on 5/1 or 6/1 if he’s in the minors). So I expect the Rodgers experiment will play out one way or the other over the next 5 weeks.
Bat and foot speed seems to still be there. For now I honestly am worried about his eyesight declining more than foot/bat speed. I have worried for the last half decade that Altuve’s decline would be sudden. Guys with his body type done have much margin for error. But he has proved doubters wrong enough that he warrants the benefit of the doubt.
The K/walk dwindling ratio has been there since 2023 at least… to the point that it may be solely dependent on power numbers. His +300 average becomes very hollow if there’s too many K’s and no power.
It's just one more player taking PAs away. Chas has played 3 games in RF. If he isn't on the team, those could go to Cam or Zach. That's 69 games in a 162 season. If Jake isn't here, similarly, Chas needs to be in CF and not used in a corner spot.
I'm actually not. The "poor" baseball owners have created this narrative in which, if they don't/can't spend as much as the Dodgers/Mets/Yankees, it absolves them of having to spend at all - and it is complete and utter bullshit. I detailed it in another post - but money has not set the Dodgers/Mets/Yankees apart from the rest of MLB, success-wise. There are levels where many of these teams can comfortable exist that allows them to be competitive. They are *choosing* not to get there and then pointing the finger at the teams that want to spend. There are, essentially, ~4 outlier teams, in terms of payroll (and, really, the Yankees & Phillies - both north of $280 - are still spending $32/$38M less than the Mets and $41/$47M less than the Dodgers). But there are SIX! teams spending less than $100M. Why are we advocating/supporting a system that punishes teams that want to spend and rewards/caters to the six (+) teams that don't? The Padres are spending $122M less than the Dodgers and have the same record.
He has always swung at a fair amount of bad pitches. But in the past he’s been amazing at making contact on those swings, that’s not been the case so far this season.
Altuve declining this year would be disastrous for the team. With him holding off father time, we are a bat short. With him declining, not only are we a sub par offense, we will have spent most of the year with the wrong hitter in the leadoff spot.
