Thanks for the contribution! Yes I am well aware of the highly constrained power of Senators in the minority party, which is limited to delaying actions & stunts. But that is exactly what Democrats have been begging for and why the current generation of leaders has failed to meet the moment - That is why Chuck Schumer is underwater when he failed to prevent the vote on the CR last month. That is why AOC & Bernie & Jasmine Crockett are popular Democrats need to act like an opposition party, to show leadership stunts like this are how you get there. Regardless if it meant that Matthew Whitaker (yet another unquallified MAGA loyalist chud) was confirmed to NATO ambassador 25 hours later. That's. Not. The. Point. THe point is for national democrats to show leadership, that this is not business as usual. That is what Booker showed, for a change.
Don't be so sensitive. No shade on Booker. It was a fine stunt, well considered and executed. I was responding to basso's insinuation that he was somehow being hypocritical for previously criticizing the filibuster and then conducting one of his own -- except that it wasn't a filibuster and did not aim to do what he criticized filibusters for doing, which is to block votes on important legislation. So not an hypocrisy at all. To your point, Booker did what the opposition minority party should be doing. But, its a drop in the ocean. He did that today. What are the democrats going to do tomorrow and the next day? He made a tiny little rhetorical strike, and if the democrats can do a thousand of those, maybe they'll move the needle a little. Even better would be finding Republicans appalled by what Trump is doing to our country and collaborate on legislation to oppose him. But of course it takes two to tango. So in the meantime, the democrats need to be persuasive and win the hearts and minds of voters to eventually build the support they need that makes such a legislative collaboration across the aisle possible. One 25 hour speech is just a base hit. You need to get many hits over a prolonged period of time before you'll see any fruit.
Democrats have dismal approval ratings in large part for not showing any fight. Sure they can't do anything other than show unified opposition but maybe this will go a long way in the mid terms
