This after they spent years gobbling up government money and contributing to this ogre's campaign? They can kick rocks, too.

You aren’t getting your manufacturing back- you really don’t want it back, because it means that wages in the USA are low compared to other top tier nations.

There is a reason the manufacturing is in places like China and Vietnam and India - their wages are very low.

China wants what the USA has, they want to transition to a consumer economy and have tried to transition for years without success.

The whole key was to have a well educated and in demand workforce that had specialization not found elsewhere- and for those citizens that failed at that? A strong social net to keep them relatively happy, healthy and not a burden.

Instead - the workforce largely happened, but the money from the extra productivity wasn’t put in the pockets of the middle class or the poor… or even the relative wealthy, instead it was put into the pockets of the absolute wealthiest Americans - causing the worst wealth imbalance in well over 100 years in the USA. So the infrastructure has been neglected, entire segments of the USA have been vilified and exploited… and now the answer is to blame illegal aliens and not the wealth distribution.

From a wider historical perspective of the USA it isn’t as doom and gloom as some think, but certainly the post World War social structure and values are dying.

Exactly - fascists can stew in squaller and cess as long as they believe they have it better than their perceived enemy. Usually it takes the next generation to realize they get nothing of value from fascism.

People condemn Trumps tariffs but don’t condemn the tariffs other governments have been imposing on us?

    Interesting.

Tell us about those tarriffs. Start with Canada and Mexico. You know the greatest trade agreement in history according to Trump who negotiated and sign that agreement.

Look up the Trump tariff list yourself. What you’re going to take the position other countries don’t impose tariffs on us?

Those numbers are made up. They are basically the trade imbalances.

Dollar index is down almost 1.7%. this is insane. Trump is guy with a 2.0 GPA running a country. If he just did nothing we would be so much better.

Because it will tank the economy, spike inflation, and lots of pepole here will lose their jobs.

Regarding tariffs imposed by other governments, consider this example.

The White House's official statement reports that Vietnam has a 9.4% average Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff rate. However, another claim has stated that Vietnam has a 90% tariff rate. The 90% figure does not align with available tariff data. The 9.4% figure is accurate but represents the average tariff across all products, regardless of what is actually imported.

For instance, if Vietnam applies a 100% tariff on soybeans and a 0% tariff on apples, the simple average would be 50%, even if no soybeans are imported. When weighted based on actual imports, Vietnam's effective tariff rate is 1.17%. Globally, the weighted average tariff rate is 2.59%.

With a baseline of 10%, the weighted average tariff rate in the United States would now be at least 10%, making it approximately 3.8 times higher than the global average. Returning to the Vietnam example, while Vietnam's effective tariff rate is 1.17%, the United States will now impose an effective tariff rate of 46% on imports from Vietnam, which is 39 times higher.

Several people in this forum have PHDs in economics and know more than Trump, Musk and Lutnick. Most of them have never ran a business but are the first to tell everyone else how to do it.

And nobody is asking where the money is going.

Trump is a terrible businessman. His success is owning real estate and pretending to be a businessman on TV.

And fascinating fact, the USA is not a business.

    A 50/50 recession?

SMDH. Compare this to the 100% Great Biden Recession which is only just 9 months away. For anyone who thinks that the MSM is liberal, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Dollars to donuts, Trump within the next three months will be blaming Biden for all of this ... making the 100% Great Biden Recession a reality.

Could it be that Russia is already under sanctions by the US and therefore is not on the list?

Before trump came into office the fed was projecting 3% growth this year. Now the Atlanta fed is predicting -3.2% gdp. You don't need a economic degree to see your braindead cult leader is torpedo the economy.

Congratulations @Salvy @Astrodome on tanking the economy and driving the country into a recession for no reason

Seeing how Trump has said he's willing to drop all sanctions for a ceasefire this makes no sense
