Just watched the DEN MIN and Rocket fan favorite Ant man almost lost the game for them. Dude is so reckless with the ball another 5 TO night and played hero ball in double OT 1 on 3 Cam Whitmore style and jacking up 3s. Ant aint it.

It's good that we keep the 2 game cushion. Now it's on us to take care of the Utah game, and if we get wins against LAL and DEN we will probably stay in 2nd. I hope the Lakers and the Warriors stay in OKC's bracket, it makes our life much easier.

Ok - so with the Spurs doing us a solid and knocking off the Nuggets, the path to 2nd seed is very achievable.

We have 5 games left.
+2 losses over LAL (7games remaining)
+3 losses over DEN

Essentially for every loss we have, for those teams to pass us they need their number (or +1 for DEN if we get the tiebreak against them in the last game of the season).

It's starting to look do-able:

If we win 2 games, including the LAL game, then they need to win 6 of 7 to pass us for 2nd seed. DEN would have to win all 5.
If we win 3 games, excluding the LAL game, they would need to win all 7 to pass us, DEN cannot pass us.

Unfortunately DEN don't play LAL, but both teams play the GSW (gunning for the top 4) and both teams play us. This is going to be interesting viewing the next few days!!

Magic number to outright get 2nd seed is: 4 wins.

 

I think 2 more wins is probably enough. And those don't necessarily have to include the games vs the Lakers or Nuggets.

And to think a few weeks ago the Rockets had fallen to 5th in the west. The national media breathed a sigh of relief, as the Lakers had catapulted toward the upper echelons of the west behind OKC….

But after some more grind and wear, the Rockets are right back up to 2nd in the west with a very manageable schedule into locking down the 2nd seed.

Sure it’s a tough 5 game stretch, but it’s the same teams they will need to beat to advance in the playoffs. I think they can go 3-2 with the talent on the squad.

 

I’d give up Jalen and 5 picks in a heartbeat for Ant and so would every GM in the league. Curry and Harden and many other superstars are TO machines. The gravity that an Ant and Amen backcourt would bring would be incredible.
