I've only played the base course one-time that I can remember, but it was really nice. Only $15 I think, but that was 10 years ago.
I was stationed at McChord AFB in Washington for a 6 week hitch, their course was pretty awesome. They would make bank if they made it public. But that is tough to do since it is physically on the base. I wonder who owns Ellington golf course. Would play that then go across the street to Peetee's for some good Cajun. It was a cow pasture back in the day, but heard it's pretty ok now.
