i see. I dont like Edwards though. Something reckless about his game and so many failed performances on the biggest stage. Hopefully im wrong.
I like your list. I'd take out Brunson (almost 29) and Jokic (by the time he MAY become available he will probably be around 32/33). We have to prepare for the future, we can have a really long window if we play our cards right.
Thanks--I think Brunson and Jokic will probably age well, but both are probably irrelevant anyway because their teams won't trade them and they won't demand a trade. Brunson is right where he wants to be on a team-friendly contract and Jokic is Jokic. A lot of the guys on this list seem pretty untouchable right now unfortunately. There are a few that I think there is some chance they become available in the next two or three years, but it's always hard to know for sure because these things are so season-by-season.
One would think this would be a happy medium. The pro-FVV crowd seems content with this. The anti-FVV crowd not so much as they want him cut despite not having a reasonable way* of replacing him with someone better. *reasonable way = does not cost Rockets significant draft capital.
You can't just look at one position and then say, our work here is done. FVV = "the whole is bigger than the parts" on this young team. This summer, if you can get a clear upgrade, then you obviously do it. But you can't simply dump his contract and let him walk. That's not proper management of assets. ...and no, FVV is worth more than 10mm. You risk alienating him by low balling him and then he's good as gone anyway. If you've ever been on the receiving end of a low ball offer in a negotiation, you know how insulting it is. Why even do business with someone like that? In the NBA, also hurts your reputation in the future. Don't low ball FVV.
I will say the Rockets are in a pickle. Outside of last night, Amen, Green, and FVV have not worked well together in the starting lineup. Maybe Ime can fix the defense with those three in the game while not playing the Suns or that last night is truly representative of the Rockets going forward. In the short term, the Rockets might have to alienate one of FVV, Amen, and Green regarding who's starting if things don't improve soon.
Don't improve soon? They won 12 of their last 13, right? They are solidly in 2nd place. The ONLY thing this team has yet to prove, including FVV, is can they do this in the playoffs. For that, we'll wait and see. Folks need to hit up a CBD store and chilax. As I've said before, the success of this team rests with Jalen Green. If you are depending on FVV to be the savior of the team, your expectations are misplaced. Regardless of FVV, if in the playoffs, Jalen is scoring 35ppg, the team wins Jalen is scoring 18pp, the team loses
‘I’m a Houstonian’: Fred VanVleet makes clear that he plans to be a Rocket long-term. “I didn’t come here to be a rental,” Fred VanVleet says of his time in Houston. “I came here for a long-term home.” Give FVV four years, 25M per year. Team option on 3 and 4. Let him finish his career off the bench. Great locker room guy, player coach. Maybe even become one of the coaches when he decides to hang it up. Keep the team identity and momentum going for years to come. Like Miami. The Suns may decide to start over after this season. So, add Durant this off-season. We might be able to get him for reasonable trade.
I swear, my opinion on this point keeps going back and forth. I think I'm creeping on the "extend him for 2 years with a third year TO" train. This would line up Brooks and FVV's contract.
My post was directed solely at the starting lineup with FVV, Green, and Amen. It has been the starting lineup 15 times this year. It has won their minutes 3 times, tied once, and lost 11 times. The current starting lineup is not why the Rockets have won 12 of 13 and are in 2nd place. Edit: I am incredibly frustrated as I've seen the Rockets play any 2 of FVV, Green, and Amen with Tari or JSJ instead of the third and all those lineups fit so much better. I have my preference of which 2 of FVV, Amen, and Green should play, but it is likely any of the combinations is better than all three unless they improve.
what team needs fred what team is going to pay him over about 12-15 million per season facts very few teams have cap space next season to spend on fred they will have the mle which should be around 15 million or so who is going to even give him that nets....no they are tanking only way they sign him is to a multi-year non-guaranteed deal so they can flip him at the deadline for a pick or something he will get the same money from us and a better situation to compete in the post season wiz have bub and they are tanking who else detroit chicago and memphis have no need jazz they are tanking why would they take the risk when they could sign a player like kuminga sac possibly has a need but they have no cap space and using the mle on him would take them into luxury tax now there are trade possibilities with fred i think the best thing we could do would be to bring fred back on a much smaller deal or let him walk and use the cap space to sign ty jerome or tyus jones or another quality backup 4-60 fourth year non guaranteed sliding scale
I honestly want to see Doncic end up on the Nuggets. Since Dallas dumped him I don't see why he should feel loyalty to any team, especially not the Fakers. I hope he chooses to team up with Joker. That would be fun to watch.
Not a fan of Fred as a long term fit. I would look to move him this offseason or pick up his option as a high dollar expiring for trade purposes during the season. I've mentioned this a few times before but I really want us to go get Collin Sexton. He reminds me so of a more athletic Jason Terry or a better shooting Bobby Jackson. I know there is a lot of skepticism of guys who put up numbers on bad teams but two things stand out to me about his time in Utah. 1) He is super efficient even while playing for a crap team and 2) His on-off numbers for a clearly tanking team are really strong. He'd be fine as a starter or great as a sixth man; and he'd actually be a threat on drives unlike our current starter.
