Oh, I have absolutely no doubt it will happen if we lose 2 out of the next 3 - especially if the offense sucks. He stole 22 bags last year on 76% success rate which isn't terrible, especially at his age with his declining speed. For his career he's around 78% on pretty good volume - a higher % than Biggio for his career. I'll tell you who sucks at stealing bases - Jeremy Pena. He's one of the fastest players in the MLB. There's no excuse for how seldom he steals bases and how often he gets thrown out when he does attempt.
This whole season rides on us having a 2022-like pitching performance. Arrighetti's start was an incredibly good sign.
For the most part, Altuve's bad base running is limited to batted balls. He's had a few bad years stealing, but I suspect that was him playing through something more than just trying to steal bases a lot. If he's healthy, he should have the green light to steal.
If you're bored and want to delve into the stats, you sure could distill this down into english for us https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jose-altuve-514888?stats=statcast-r-running-mlb
I will never underestimate our pitching crew. Spencer didn't even look like belonged in the league at the beginning of the season and here we are. JP France, Luis Garcia, Javier all came out of nowhere.
Red good. Blue bad. For the most part, he still provided value on bases in his younger years when he was faster and as he's gotten older, that value is gone as he's not fast enough to create positive value to cover bonehead plays. For stolen bases, his good and bad years do not seem to correlate with volume of stolen bases (or inversely than what would be expected if anything).
Walker is averaging almost 100mph off the bat and has 1 hit. Unless he goes on a run of Aubrey Huff vortex tornado of s!!t luck, this will improve.
