Do any of you remember when they were in Houston shooting the scenes here? When I first moved here in the mid-90's a buddy told me that much of the movie was shot here because of how futuristic Houston's downtown looked. I love the scenes at the GRB.
My friend's brother was on the film crew (stunt crew). I got to go on set and watch 'em make cool scenes. It was fun (even if the movie sucked).
You just know they would screw up a remake though! First of all, as someone has said, the dark humor would be removed. Also, the original film was pretty gory, that would all get thrown out the window so it could be seen by younger viewers. Those two things right there are enough for me to not want to see a remake. Especially when the original was pretty bloody good.
I was living at a street across the 59 Eastex at the time, and we saw them film the 2 seconds when Robo rode the motorcycle across Jensen & Lyons. Those 2 seconds took about 4 hours to set up and do . I guess that's why it was such a bad movie .
I heard that Peter Wellers has like a Ph.D in Roman and Renaissance art and teaches a class at Syracuse that is supposedly pretty difficult. That's hilarious because you know there are dimwits every year that sign up for his class just so they can say they learned about art from Robocop. I bet he hates those kids.
yeah, I was watching some History Channel episode and he was one of the main professors/historians talking. I kept thinking "man, he looks familiar"...30 seconds later..."Holy crap, its robocop!"
Great thread -- I considered starting it that night also. The Hawaii-Georgia game was on, it was boring... so I flipped around and boom -- "RoboCop" was on. It's one of those movies I couldn't turn away from, for nostalgia's sake. So many great lines in that one -- and That 70's Show's Red (Kurtwood Smith) was awesome. Classic 80's R-rated flick though -- random f-bombs everywhere and overdone blood/gore. Over the top violence. The second one had potential, but was just bad. I thought the Robocop 2 robot was intense when I was younger -- a lot of potential there. But the ending of the movie... I mean WTF. "Patience, we're only human" -- boom, done. Huh? I had never seen the third one. I was too tired so I recorded it and watched it today. I just could not stop watching because it was pure comedy. Worst sequel massacre ever? Robocop takes forever to show himself in the flick, and when he does, he jumps a car from a 10-story building, somehow lands straight down, shoots out the roof, floats out and suddenly has an unrecognizable voice. Not even the same actor! Massive disappointment, but can you blame him? Peter Weller = wise man. You cringe every time someone calls this Robocop "Murphy". What a disaster -- I couldn't tell if it was intentionally trying to be or not. It was like some executive sat down and said, "The 80's ROCKED!!!". Sword-wielding karate robot ninjas, punk rocker Billy Idol-wannabees with knives and guns and ultimately Robocop is flying via jet pack. Flying. And it looked like they used Paintshop Pro for the special effects on it. Oh, and it's PG-13. They hire comedians as main actors. Rip Torn is the head of the OCP -- yes, RIP TORN. This movie made the Clooney/Schwarzeneggar Batman look Oscar-worthy. Sorry I'm 15 years late, but wow. Anyhow, I agree tinman -- wouldn't mind seeing a return ala "Dark Knight" for Batman.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000693/bio Was chosen to play the lead character in RoboCop (1987) because of his slender build. The producers feared that having a large actor would require too big a suit that would look ridiculous, and insisted on a thinner actor. Weller found he sweated so much weight off in the suit that a fan had to be built into it. He teaches a literature and fine arts class at Syracuse University. He can be seen on The History Channel's new documentary on Roman engineering. He holds a master's degree in Roman and Renaissance art and is working toward a Ph.D. One of Syracuse University's most popular professors. Says that he has never seen RoboCop 3 (1993). http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=688885 Date Class E H C RI User Comments Having RoboCop for a prof. was bleeping awsome, the best was one day after i had his class last year i went back to my room to watch some 24 the best show ever, boom, therr he was the prof of history himself, blowin up Jack Bauer. HE IS THE MAN
Actually, this was the movie that turned Miller off writing scripts for years because his script was mangled by the director so much so that if bore little resemblance to what he actually wrote. By the way, a remake of Robocop would suck balls and besides do we need another freaking remake?
the best one has to be TV: "You're going to be one bad mother lover." Original: "You're going to be one, bad mother f***er." (when Bob Morton stares up close at Robocop right after they finish building him)
LOL any of yall remember this song?! if you havent I suggest you should <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/McDjaLgrrRg&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/McDjaLgrrRg&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Reading this 2nd thread page got me reflecting back to the days & totally brought this back into memory.

Here’s my question to you @tinman so we all love the movie and wouldn’t change a darn thing, correct? See I always wanted to know What happened to Lewis, Nancy Allen who played Alex Murphy partner. Like, she didn’t go though any trauma of psychological pain? It’s as if she went about her business and moved on. Wasn’t it kinda her fault Murphy died? She would at least be taken to court or something I don’t know?
