There are not a lot of formal practices but there are ample opportunities to get workouts in, to work one on one with assistants - to watch film and make adjustments. Some players do that consistently and over the long term increase their chances to improve. Other players at 20-21 years old lack the maturity or discipline to do that and often times they pay the price.
Cam is awesome and the youngest player on the team. He is WAY better than Reed Shepherd, yet Reed has gotten opportunities Cam could not dream of. Ime has a disdain for Cam and that’s fine. Whitmore will go somewhere and shine. He is a perennial all-star. He’ll be better and more efficient than Jalen Green in time. Just needs support.
So many fans forget Cam only 20 years old, and he got 27 pts against OKC with high efficiency. Fish memory.
That’s not what is being debated here. We know he has offensive talent. We’re talking about maturity. On the court and practice aren’t the only areas that players are evaluated.
And I’m not saying give up on him—he might still be maturing and learning the hard way. If he gets it here, cool, but if he takes it for granted and has a revelation somewhere else, that’s a high probability too. I remember the same posters pining for Rick Adelman to play Terrance Williams or years later, McHale/D’Antoni with KJ McDaniels. Some players are talented but they never mature. I hope that’s not the case with Cam.
Another team will benefit from him Like Quentin Grimes I wish it were the Rockets though because he’s oozing with star potential And he’s still super young
People on here complaining about Cam, but clamoring about JG. They defend JG at every moment, but he will probably be the reason the Rockets don't get past the 1st round. I like JG think he has all the talent in the world, but his non aggressive attitude in crunch time and when defenses get complicated annoys me as well, but hey I just watch and shake my head.
A single career game makes folks lose their minds alot on here.. But at least he'll be a CF thread starter for years to come because of it.. "Alot of I knew it" and "I told you so" condos on the horizon
What I have been told is that the consistency and focus hasn’t but at the level needed or expected. He has been told by numerous players and coaches that he will improve and earn more playing time when he makes adjustments to his lifestyle, self discipline and training habits. Again - I don’t think it is fair to expect a 19-21 year old to have the same wisdom or discipline or maturity of a 30-35 year old man but that is what the NBA is in 2025. A player comes out without the right personality - they better adapt quickly. Udoka isn’t Silas - he isn’t going to reward Cam or blindly play him if he isn’t helping the team win games and isn’t making the strides off the court.
