we know Ime wants that. We see the players try that but they jsut aren’t there yet. We simply don’t have the playmakers and then when the pass is made, guys don’t hit the open three or they missing bunnies. . This core either has to another step or we make a trade to facilitate the growth process. I’d hate to be Stone.

I just gotta say I love the tenor and style of this discussion. Really enjoying reading the takes. No name calling or trolling. No suggesting anyone is stupid or racist etc. I had something I wanted to say but it had already been said so well in the last 3 pages that I figured I'd just on the quality of discussion. I nominate for thread of the year!

Or develop from within. I can imagine one day Amen becoming that guy. Even a top 5 in the league. Maybe in 3 or 4 years at the earliest, if the team is good, and he grows from year to year as he has from last to this year. Until then I'd love to see Booker, or someone like him, serve as the next "bridge" to a deep playoff run. I also imagine Jabari and Tari have All-Star potential. Becoming solid #2's if Alpi doesn't take the next step in the next few years.

I think Ime is doing what he thinks will give us the best chance of winning. Game to game he lets his ego get in the way. Last game was a good example when he played a putrid FVV 42 minutes while, I guess, sending a message to Jabari and Tari by letting them play a combined 32 mins. If he thinks that is prioritizing winning we have a big problem with a coach that can’t see past his shortcomings to do what is best for the team. It reminds me a lot of Dusty and Maldonado (even though FVV hasn’t crossed into complete disaster territory yet).

I guess Dusty won a championship in Houston despite his coaching..... ? Yeesh.....

This whole "ego" thing is just code for someone not agreeing with Ime and not being able to just hand wave away overachieving in the regular season.

Of course. Doesn't mean we should become impatient or be ignorant. This team has made a significant leap this year and this will be a very interesting offseason.

It’s the coach’s job to focus on the season at hand and based on the record I believe he is doing it.

I'm not saying I agree with this. But let's suppose everything you say is correct, and that regular season matters very little to development compared to playoffs and offseason, then why would the Rockets ask John Wall to sit at home collecting checks while letting KPJ/Jalen run some of the worst offenses in NBA history? Why would they play Reed Sheppard token minutes when it was clear Udoka wants to yank him at moment notice? What you're suggesting is for the MLB approach, which is have young prospects playing in the G-League until they're nearly fully formed before playing in the NBA.

Also, not sure why you think the Rockets seeding matters for this year's playoffs. Do you think the Rockets would somehow be overmatched if they played say the Grizzlies in a 4/5 matchup as opposed to the Clippers in a 2/7 matchup? Or the Warriors in a 3/6 matchup? I mean we aren't talking about avoiding the Thunder in the first round here.

If she went after Cam instead they'd be exchanging VD right now.

I think the playoffs aid teams in how to develop/utilize players to handle the playoffs, but I don't see it as much on actually developing a player except to show what needs to be developed. Offseason matters a lot in the development of players. Though, Amen specifically seems to have improved a lot during this season.

On seeding, I want the Clippers or the Grizzlies. I haven't watch the Warriors much, but I would not want to face them. I'm not sure it is possible, but if the Rockets face the Clippers in 1st round and the Grizzlies in the second round, I think the Rockers are going to face OKC in the conference finals.

Watch out Amen, it's the same kinda trap Diddy lays out. She's on the inside and looking to gain leverage on you for the powers that be. That's how they got LeBron and all the rest.

I said at the beginning of my post that I am talking about Coaching decisions, not GM … ie tanking

I did account for regular season development. “but at some point in your growth phases, what happens in the regular-season development-wise has to consider winning”

Reed got solid minutes early in the season, and I think the injury screwed him … ie looked like Coach was working him back in.

“Until Fully formed” I mean … I’m stopping here, you’re getting too hyperbolic … which leads to boring conversations

let me know if you want further discussion on the topic: “Development v Winning is a false dichotomy for the ongoing development of Sengun, Green, Amen, Tari and Bari right now”

Yeah, I can totally agree with this wrt individual development. Now, consider Team Development.

Team Development is what the Coach impacts the most. So, when I say Development v Winning seems to have become a false dichotomy wrt these Rockets in the last half of this season … it’s just simple … they go hand-in-hand at this point, bc finally getting significant playoff experience is what we need the most as a team

the crowd that says, “we aren’t winning anything this year, so play Cam and Reed…” has been heard. I contend it’s an overstatement to say following out of the playoff-push rotation is going to hurt them.

and again, I think Reed was getting back into the rotation, but got screwed by the injury. It sucks

So says you, there is zero proof of what you say being true.....playoffs are important, but we won't have these 7 players together much longer, if at all, so how much TEAM development matters this playoff season when a good number of them will be traded, and we have a new team dynamic next year?

I’m not sure what you’re discussing, based on what you quoted. “No proof” of what?

You mean I have “no proof” what impact Cam falling out of the rotation will have on his development. ofc not. Do you?
