There are definitely some awkward stares in that room. The thing is he leads it up like it is going to be some big suprise but there was reality only one person it was going to be. It could have been VanWey but they already announced he wasn't making it. Espada is always just so awkward in everything he does. He tries so hard to appear to be everyone's friend but he needs to realize he is the manager now and he isn't there to make everyone happy. His job is to win games and if that means he breaks some eggs along the way, so be it.
Funny - I literally wrote something earlier about feeling off about this potentially rubbing some players the wrong way, but decided not to in case it was all in my head. Anyway, let's hope great play and team dynamic help everyone forget.
I thought it was kind of cringe how it played out, don't get me wrong, the sentiment was right, but the execution was BAD.....I kept going, please clap or something, this is awkward. IMO it should have been a private setting; this was too much like the schtick when a college player gets a scholarship and is mobbed by his team, bit in this instance it fell flat..................love me some Cam though, I hope he rakes
It has been a long time since the AL has not had a team everyone knew was a juggernaut heading into the season.
Yeah something about it was off. I thought it was rather cringe too. Still very happy for Cam. Hope it doesn’t hurt the team chemistry
This. I really don't think there was anything positive to making a spectacle of it other than a nice social media clip. Definitely feels like special treatment. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through Chas' head when I saw him LOL Do it in the manager's office 1:1...you can still record it, have the family standing by, etc. Then make a brief announcement to the team so they can congratulate him. It's probably all in my head due to being spoiled by the greatness we had for so long, but feeling nervous about the chemistry this season. And also having 2 players out of position plus a downgrade defensively at 3B. Excited about the possibilities for the offense, but I do not feel good about a deep playoff run with the defense.
I'm ecstatic about 22 year old Cam. This kid's the Cat's Meow...a serious ROY candidate...and likely a perennial All Star. That said...the Astros handling of this notification was Bush. You don't bring family into the clubhouse and pull that stuff. This should be handled behind close doors. The possible team ramifications, and chance of fostering a sense of entitlement are unacceptable.
The more I think about this deal, the more it looks like the Glenn Davis deal. The Astros completely nailed that one, then messed it up a year later, and damaged it further 3 years after that. I hope they learned from that mistake.
Yes, hopefully Jim Crane and Dana Brown have learned from the mistakes they made before they were ever involved with the team .
At what point did I say or even hint that Crane or Brown were part of that? The mistakes don't need to be yours to learn from them. That's called history and it's way more important than so many people think.
