I was just saying they claim it is not classified to avoid public scrutiny and maybe even to avoid breaking the law. It is obvious that it is classified and that at least one of the non-public names should stay that way. If this is actually their official position, then both they and the journalist are free to publish the whole chat. That is not going to happen since there is obviously classified material in there.

As for Basso, I was done with him a long time ago, and he's the only person I have on ignore here. It might not be often, but I can have a sincere back and forth with everyone here. Just not him. Ever.

ps Whoops, I was wrong. Looks like the journalist took the green light and went ahead with publishing the chat (at least the attack plans portion). I have not read it, so I am not sure if it is the full chat with no redactions.

I consider myself a moderate conservative and in my opinion...

This mistake is terrible and careless. From what I can tell... although the information wasn't "classified" and did not contain some specific details (such as target names or target locations), the information was certainly sensitive (i.e. not info that should be sent to a journalist before an attack). If it had included classified info or more details, I'd agree that harsh discipline should fall on those responsible.

Specifically, Mike Waltz should not have sent the invitation to the journalist. And I also agree that none of them should have been using a commercial application for such communications. I also think that R's "focusing" on "Biden failed" is not any different than D's focusing on "hate Trump" - both parties should stop spreading the hate.

I'd summarize that this was a close call and our leaders should learn from it and improve. If the content had been more specific, the consequences could have been devastating.

I think D's are overplaying this. And I think R's are underplaying this.

As a side note, from reading the original article, I do admire the leaders who are CLEARLY working hard to protect the interests and security of America and its allies by trying to open the shipping lanes for the world and combat terrorism, while considering the cost to Americans, considering public opinion, considering other nations' interests, the POTUS's communications, and timetables for the US and other countries.
