Pretty sure he said he doesn't not have to divest Rockets ownership. Even if he did, he would just name his son who is already active in the ownership group. Effectively nothing is going to change.
What is the point of being an ambassador? He already made a lot of money from rockets ownership and Landry and various businesses. Why would he want to take a tough job?
Brokeman is gonna be doing business with the Italian mob and drinking adrenochrome blood in the Vatican
Ambassador to a friendly Euro/NATO ally like Italy is not tough. It’s often not even filled. Sometime given as an award for a top donator, or other political reason … somewhat like DEI hires ….
Unfortunately, most NBA owners suck and would happily do this if offered. Tilman probably isn't much worse than the rest, it's more that he's crass and shameless enough to top Cheeto Mussolini's list. Philosophically, I would be in favor of cities themselves owning their sports teams. We've got a long way to go and a lot bigger fish to fry before anything like that happens though.
State owned? That would called socialism here and Muricans hate that word..... next to communism. A Conglomerate group ....similar to what the Celtics used to have.....middle ground.
Well, not so much "The State" (of America, or Texas, as the case may be) as individual cities. Which are still sort of a form of state, I guess? But probably one of the weakest forms in our current system, and the most invested in highly-localized concerns. but I digress--this isn't really GARM topics, and I reeeeeally try to avoid getting political here, but five beers in...
Cities would hesitate to be associated with scandals like the Udoka shaggin a co-worker or the Primo saga or the KPJ on his woman beating beserker run. Mostly negative press like that, also if a team really has financial holes....... Only the biggest cities perhaps can withstand that, I only see the Lakers personally. The perk with single owner is that you can sell the team numerous times without batting an eye......sort of shuffling cards.
Lol this isn't going to be a "tough job". Tilman hasn't done tough jobs for decades at this point. He pays people for those. I kinda agree, but I think a good chunk of owners are at least ostensibly less sh!tty people. Could be worse, though. We could have the Mavs' owners.
