I like and respect signal as being a best in class consumer encrypted messenger that's even used by militaries (without the resources of American $$$) on the ground.

But as the article says, their phones are rich targets for state spy agencies. It doesn't matter if signal is solid if your phone is leaking what you're reading.

Goldberg made it clear that he didn't know it was legit until the moment they confirmed it. I'm pretty sure he and his lawyers were meticulous on the chain of events to not make it a "leak".

Typical Executive branch obfuscation by making and pretending everything is Classified.

 

E2E (Signal is E2E) is not the be-all of secure communication. It's a fundamental basic requirement, but there are much more to ensuring secure communication.

Classified communication should never be made on an unapproved device or an unapproved 3rd party app. There are approved methods to choose from. Unlike in Ukraine, where they lack our infrastructur and they have an immediate need, we have established secure options for secure communication.

Yes it is. I would bet my right nut that several of the people in this conversation have compromised phones. I would assumed that this whole conversation was in the hands of the Russians, Israelis, Chinese, etc as soon as they hit send. There is a reason they have SCIFs or communicate in the same room. These are dumb people.
