there is pretty broad support for waste reduction..the mission is not the issue..it is the execution/process. but, I suspect you knew that.

And let's see just how much of the DOGE cuts survive the congressional budget process.

People saying HOLD UP! about an unelected billionaire taking a chainsaw to government spending doesn't mean they dont want spending cuts or cleanup.

What we don't want is "hahaha! we cut ebola funding...and of course we reversed it because haha...who doesnt want ebola prevention hahahahah".

But of course maga morons won't get that. And where were these concerned citizens of the government budget all this time?

still no arrests after finding all this alleged fraud

as incompetent as this administration is, the fact that they think they can effectively reduce the federal govt by 15% is laughable

99% chance that story is bullshit. However, Elon did receive billions in carbon offsets and tax credits for essentially doing nothing.

This is the type of stuff that everyone wants fixed. Do you know which companies are ripping off the federal government? Much of them are fortune 500 companies - Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir etc. They call them beltway bandits. Having Elon come in with a chainsaw is a joke, he gets billions from the federal government.

Another example is the audit of the DoD. Every single year the big 4 accounting firms get paid billions to say they can't fix the problem. They are incentivized to have the DoD not pass an audit. There are innumerable scams like this when the private sector is involved, yet Elon is cutting funding to honest public workers doing critical jobs.

I would love to see them cut off the spigot to dishonest contractors, but that won't happen, they want the private sector to take it all over.

Then WHY was nothing done for the past 4 decades?

You have to overshoot due the negligence of past politicians, both left and right. The arrogance of bureacrats who thought they were above accountability

If you're an American watching the video in the above post is mandatory

And if you don't have tears in your eyes from Doge giving a second lifeline to America, than I don't know that you are an American

If there was actually this rampant massive fraud, that he alleges, it would be pretty simple to show America where, why, what, and how.

Yet he chooses to work in the shadows with his unelected cronies, exactly the type of "deep state" government you personally have railed against for years. Irony is ironic.

EDIT - meant to say 40 years.

Nothing was done because every act of congress in the past 4 years explicitly undermines cutting costs. Earmarks are case in point. The punting on the BRAC process for defense spending is another example.

Heck, I'm old enough to remember when the Supreme Court overrode the line item veto as unconstitutional - that was about as close as we ever got to where the President could unilaterally cut spending.

Even the fiscal hawks in Congress admit that for the cost cuts to stick, you have to get them codified into law. However, when you take a sledgehammer to a process, then you actually undermine your objective - because you will break things that were working and people will say, a ha, see you can't cut spending without drastic impacts. When Elon did this with Twitter, it was his prerogative - he owned the company. The government isn't owned by Elon or Trump (insert joke that it is owned by the bond holders or special interests).

The bureaucracy is intentionally byzantine to discourage meaningful spending reductions because of the threat that you might accidently cut something that was "working". Sledgehammer is much better. Getting rid of everything reveals what you can't live without.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-based_budgeting

Zero-based budgeting (ZBB) is a budgeting technique in which all expenses must be justified for a new period or year starting from zero, versus starting with the previous budget and adjusting it as needed.

Of course, the ultimate cause of profligate deficit spending is the government's ability to print money. If only there was a way to turn off the money printer...
