He'd grace us with his presence in the Playoffs and the rotation would be shortened to see him at the end of the bench.
maybe the broken thumb will re-yipp-ify his shooting stroke and we will reset back to summer league reed!
It would be nice if our young guys like Reed and Cam could also get a taste of the playoffs, but there's no way in hell Cam sees the floor. Reed probably won't either.
All we are doing by relying on FVV is pushing us as a contender one year further down the road, it is time we let FVV walk, live with the growing pains, because that is where the promised land is. DD
Fred is too good to sit on the bench. I think most of us would like the team to increase Reed Sheppard’s usage. Which means Fred might be on his way out, So unless Fred gives Houston a big discount, Rockets might as well let him walk. And I’m sure plenty of contenders would be all over him. I can feasibly see Vanvleet still playing another 8 seasons. The dude is tough as nails. There is a real good chance he outplays whomever the Rockets insert as point guard, even if Reed falter. But the Rockets love Reed and they have to throw him into the pressure cooker to see if he is what they thought he was in draft day. There are glimpses, but Reed does create a lot of doubts about who he will be.
I would love to see Reed get some playoff experience this year but given Ime's history, we will be watching FVV 40+ minutes a game with Reed glued to the bench.
I'm convinced Reed would have looked better had he gotten more minutes. Had he stayed in the G this whole time he would have possibly carved out a spot in our rotation by now. The key was always minutes. It didn't matter where.
And I’m convinced continuing to give Reed and Cam artificial minutes would have hampered the development of Sengun, Green, Tari, Bari and Amen. I can discuss details of this Theory, but I doubt ppl in this thread care. Because your theories, my theories, they are all defendable. just saying … that for posters who have habits of making definitive, hyperbolic claims about Reed and Cam development, it’s just a theory…. If you honestly believe your theories of best way to manage minutes for team development is fact, well, no wonder you need to play the blame game. some of y’all who constantly play the blame game seem to fail to realize, changing things isn’t always a sum gain. … like, “only an idiot would not do my idea, my ideas only make things better. The Coach’s success with the Core 7 are The Cake, and my icing can only make it better.” not … how … reality … works if the Goal is maximizing the development of the entire Core 7, as a Team … well, five of those players need deep playoff experience to take the next leap (mistakes and all). The sooner, the better. And those core 5 also need to increase their Team IQ on offense, which requires continued repetition, with veteran help.
They do, so why are you sure that playing Cam and Reed over Holiday and Tate would hinder any of that? IMHO, this team needs to embrace the youth, we aren't winning anything with FVV, Brooks in the starting lineup, they are a nice stop gap, but we should be looking to move on from them as soon as next season, and grow, just like OKC is..... And, yes there will be some growing pains, but at least you can make informed decisions on the players and what they bring to an NBA court. I get the playoff experience bit, do you honestly think these 5 are staying? I don't......and I also don't believe a deep playoff run is going to happen without shooting, and arguably 2 of our potential best shooters played intermittently this year......it was a wasted year for Reed and Cam......and it could have been a developmental year for them and a playoff year for the team at the same time. DD
Well because of how Cam and Reed played in those minutes...... and this team isn't interested in developmental growing pains to help certain players but care more about how the team is doing. What makes you think Cam and Reed are staying either? Like it or not, but both Cam and Reed got some hard NBA lessons about making the NBA a long term career. No more developmental years.
Agreed. Winning and meritocracy is a form of development. I understood why we tanked under Silas and prioritized losing. And I'm sure there's middle ground between development and winning.... but I think what Ime is doing in this situation is the right approach.
