so what is the definition of clinching play-in if we have already guaranteed our worst chances in the postseason as making one of the top 10 teams?

Would you say we have at least clinched the play-in? NBA standings would not.

Huh? They have clinched the play in even if they lose all their games they are now guaranteed a play in appearance.

Rockets have guaranteed they will have a winning record even if they never win again that means they will never go past 9th in the standings.

I would agree that the wording is a bit confusing, but if you look at all of the letters and their meanings, it is clear that ps means what you think it means -- minimum play-in, no guarantee of playoffs yet.

There is an "x" designation to indicate you've clinched a playoff berth. So "ps" is the first status once you've guaranteed a top 10 spot, then "x" once you've locked in a top six spot. And if you lock in a 7-10 spot, you get a "pi" instead of the "x".

So your math is right, the Rockets have not locked in a playoff spot yet, but they HAVE locked in a postseason spot, and the nba.com standings do indicate that if you read closely enough.

that’s my point. They have at least clinched the play-in.

The NBA standings have a “clinched play-in” category separate from the “clinched postseason” category. They currently have the Rockets listed under Clinched Postseason but not as Clinched Play-In.

    it is very confusing.

We really need to win at least 6 to 7 of the remaining 10 games.

Because we have a chance to clinch the playoffs. If you look at there is no team with Clinched Play-In status.

We need to go 4-10 the rest of the way to win 50 games this season. A 50 win season would be a huge accomplishment for this team considering we are still so young and developing.

Can't wait to see Jalen, Sengun, Jabari, Tari, Amen and Reed after another summer of development.

The high seed is a miracle but the net differential from the big dogs is still huge.

that first five should be our starters from the get-go next year, unless we make a trade. Frankly, it should be our starters right now.

I think 6 more oughta clinch the 2nd seed. Even 5 might be enough. All I hope is that it doesn't come down to the final game of the regular season vs Denver.

Actually I wouldn't mind this. It would stress me out to come down to the final game, but we're probably not playing Denver in the first round, so giving the young guys a taste of a must win game before the playoffs start would be really beneficial. If we were contending for a title, I'd say it would be better to get that last day of rest, but the focus is on getting to the second round if we can right now. I think it's best to come into the playoffs hot.

If we lose and drop let's say to the 4-5 seed, then it's a lesson learned and we can make adjustments to the playoff atmosphere for game 1.
If we win and keep the 2-3 seed, then it's great momentum going into the first round with home court advantage.

Most important games left are @GS and @LAL. Win those two and were good. None of the other teams worry me all that much. LAL doesnt either but you know....David Stern....
