I’ve seen it. I’ve seen him sprain his fingers and play through. Jalen plays through pain. Tough player.
He should rest, he isn't helping trying to be an iron will player...if he is hurting take a game or two off. DD
He needs to incorporate a midrange game into his arsenal. Currently, he relies too heavily on step-back threes, taking too many shots early in the shot clock, within the first 17-18 seconds, which is a double-edged sword. While he’s improved this season in terms of sharing the ball, a star player must know how to elevate himself against the defensive schemes of opposing teams. I want to believe in his learning curve and trust that he’ll continue to grow.
Scoring wise no... But I'd say a 13 game stretch of a 5apg/2tov ratio is probably the best 13 game stretch of playmaking in his career. Like if that can be his assist to turnover ratio next season he made a true playmaking leap.
He is inconsistent, will be his entire career - he is NOT a superstar player, he is a decent SG, just not a super good one. DD
He just looks like a better passer now, he understands the angles and how to set people up. I think the Rockets should go with more "Green as the sole guard" lineups.
He's definitely making the simple reads in a timely fashion leading to a lot of hockey assists and good offensive flow for the team. If only he had Amen's strength and hand size to actually whip passes with good velocity cross court. Still limited as a passer but at the end of the day has the most gravity for a perimeter player on this team by far and that leads to a lot of 4 vs 3 situations Jalen creates when getting blitzed which leads to a lot of easy buckets. God the dream franchise player is basically if Amen and Jalen fused together with each of their best traits.
I was willing to toss out the 2024 part of the season because January was a significant improvement that was very promising. February was a decline from January. So far, March is worse than even December. It's not looking good for Jalen in my book. The final 25 games are "make or break" time and it's mostly broken so far. There are still 10 games left and a playoff series, but recent games make me doubtful a turnaround is coming. We'll see. IMO, his future with the Rockets is on the line and he'll be gone if 40/32 doesn't significantly improve. I said at the beginning of the season there were no more excuses for him and it remains true.
Playmaking and defensive improvements have been really nice to see. Overall it’s looking like this year is another baby step forward in his evolution. That shooting/scoring though…I don’t think it’s crazy to believe that is still the most important thing for him and we’re looking at another year with just about the same splits and efficiency.
Agreed. When he first came up, he showed very little natural playmaking for others capabilities. He's showing a real knack for it, beyond what the numbers are saying. Watching him last night, the thing that was off to me was his balance. When he was rising up for jumpers off the Adams PnR plays, he was not on balance -- that was a big issue for him earlier in his career, but he's generally been better lately.
Starts at 1:28.33. Jalen Green their X Factor. Against Top 10 Pt Differential (i.e. great) teams Jalen has a 48.5% eFG (31st percentile) 14th percentile 2 pt % and 17th percentile 3 pt %.
If it isn't looking good for Jalen you understand it isn't looking good for Sengun? Sengun and Green's scoring efficiency are roughly the same and Green's playmaking has advanced enough where it isn't some galactic sized gap between him and Alpi now in that regard. Amen is more safe just from the fact that maybe the franchise doesn't see him as the future go to offensive option and therefore are okay with him being an elite utility player like a supercharged Draymond. But ya right now the biggest question mark for this team for the future is if Green and Alpi can be legitimate one two offensive scoring options for a championship team.
Just another point of reference that Jalen is on track for at least being a number two options on a championship team at the very least I think. I don't think it's as depressing as you suggest. Green is fine. We didn't hit the lottery and draft a Luka or Wemby but a more athletic Devin Booker is fine
I feel like Green has Ime's trust right now more than ever in these past two years. I've noticed major differences in body language and how they discuss each other's work in interviews. Green has been very coachable, resilient and mentally tough - things Ime really values. He's had a good season in an ugly-ish way but I think Ime appreciates that too. I think he's more secure than ever. I was much more worried about that last summer and last season.
So, you don't think he'll be better once he heals or get some rest? You just think what you see right now, at age 23 and despite he's obviously banged up is the best he can be?
One game, he had like 8 in another....FFS. Slightly better, sort of a Zack Lavine type, not a max player or Superstar....he has been a pro 5 years, 4 in Houston working on his game he just isn't a dude. DD
