I've always loved the disciplined players who forced the pitcher to pitch in the zone. I always hated the umpires who gave the pitchers a trapezoid outside the zone. In particular the ones calling Braves games in the TBN years.
The 2 homer game was his 2nd start. He went 0-4 the day before that and had a pinch hit appearance the game before that, his first game back. I wouldn't have bothered correcting his post if I had realized it was so close to his first game. I thought it was a week or 2 in that he had the 2 homer game. It was game 3. 2nd start.
I liked him. It seems like he was so close, but just never really got there. Someone will pick him up.
I look at Jon like he's a classic underachiever and I'm glad he wont be playing 1B for my favorite team.
It's just ironic that he got in shape and looked great, but his skills seemed to diminish this spring, maybe he is just that guy who plays better at his normal weight................I can't say I will miss his play because he mostly sucked, but I will miss the person, he seemed like a real nice dude.
When they reported the weight loss, Josh Reddick said, in an episode of Crush City Podcast said that he bulked up, gaining like 20 lbs, one offseason. He said just the change in body shape completely effected the bat path of his swing and he had to lose all the weight to be able to hit again. Maybe Jon is just dealing with adjusting to a new bat path and needs reps? He doesn't fit this roster anyway, but I sure hope he is given a chance to figure it out - Colorado would be fun.
I hope we can hang on to Singleton til we can find a team that really wants him. Trading him for most anything could extend his career and would be a good deed the Astros could do.
I'll tell you what...Jon had some serious talent, which he squandered for a good while. To see, him come back, and carve out a career, albeit a different one...It's been nice. You don't see that very often.
