I’ve been wondering this too ever since the team posted their “Clinched Postseason” post a few days ago.

we’ve at least mathematically clinched the play in by now with Dallas and Phoenix both at 34-37, but the NBA standings don’t reflect this. The best they could finish would be 45-37 and Houston could lose 11 in a row and still finish above each of them.

Warriors without Curry are about to fall down to 7 smh. We need to lose so we aren't the 2 seed

Just another instance of the national media disrespecting Houston sports

I was baffled about too. As far as I’m concerned Harden’s entire Rockets tenure was prime Harden. Dude made Morey look like a damn genius for orchestrating the heist of the generation the very minute he suited up for the Rockets.

OKC saved face for doing their own heist in stealing SGA from the Clippers a decade later…

Advice for life, losing on purpose is akin to turning off the light in a pitch black dark room, then trying to stumble around trying to find that light switch again (but that light switch constantly moves around). You may never find your light again.

Teams will be jockeying for position to play us, and I expect the Clips will start "dropping" games too.

No team would purposefully drop into play in risking a single game elimination just to ensure a match up vs us, that's beyond stupid.

Exactly. I'm not a fan of strategically losing games. A lot of times it just back fires

Now at least the nba standings show the Rockets have “clinched postseason”.

but it still doesn’t make sense to me, as they could still fall into the play- in. They are definitely locked in as one of the top 10 teams to finish.

but if you asked me I would say they clinched the play in. I guess it depends on how you define “postseason”, I was under the impression the play-in did NOT count as the playoffs but the NBA obviously markets it that way.

This drove me nuts too. I think the nuance is that the playin is part of the “postseason” but not part of the “playoffs.” I guess this makes some sense —play in games are, in fact, played post-season. I still don’t like it though.

Anything after the regular season is post season. The play in means the regular season is over and all the season records are final so it is part of the post season.
