IS there anywhere I can go to get cheap DVDs, either online or somewhere in Houston. I wanted the Rushmore criterion collection dvd, but im not going to pay $30.00 damn dollars for it. I dont want to rent from netflix and burn the movies either. Im lazy. PLus I want the box and stuff... All I want is Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, and Tenacious D Complete Masterworks at a reasonable price. Thank You...
If you can deal with used, on EBay you can get legitimate older DVD's for cheap, depending upon popularity. Lots of the stuff on EBay is counterfeit, esp the stuff from Far East. Amazon.com also has lots of used. New releases aren't going to be cheap many places except as loss leaders. Also, need to check both places because sometimes folks will price things ridiculously on Amazon. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=617&item=6332895731&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
$30 is pretty damn good for a Criterion. I've paid $50 for a Criterion before. drapg, do you know something we don't?
I've had problems with half.com. It's essentially EBay with fixed prices. Small sample size, n=2, but problems with both purchases. I don't buy anything from there anymore. Had problems on EBay but not nearly as many after 200 transactions, only 3 problem purchases, one resolved, the other two involved less than $10, never resolved.
Well I wont buy from half.com if you had trouble with it. What are these problems though ? When you buy something on ebay! do you give your credit card number to the other seller directly or to ebay! ? I am really dumb when it comes to this stuff... Is there no place in Houston I can go and find dvd sales? I guess I should just go look around.. but I am never able to find Tenacious D Complete Masterworks or Bottle rocket. Thanks to everyone for the help so far.
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/ I found this place which has cheaper prices and free shipping... but I dont know about it. I dont trust it very much. Has anyone bought anything from here before ?
It is a legit website, man. If you want to go the used route, go to www.dvdtalk.com and register for their message boards. There are tons of people there that sell stuff in one of the forums, I've probably bought between 7 and 10 DVDs from people on there. To make sure you're buying from a legit seller, they have a type of rating system like eBay where people get a rating that goes up and down based on how many positive or negative transactions they have. Lot's of cool people there. You can get some good prices, too!
That site is pretty good but i can take a while to get your dvd. I have found that the best place to buy criterion's online is www.dvdplanet.com They have Rushmore for $27.94 and it retails for $42.99. Standard shiping is free too.
Care to elaborate? I've never had a problem on half.com. Maybe because I don't buy anything with less than a Like New grade unless it is hard to find and I have prior communication with the seller.
they have a nice selection. and i use them often. only problem with them is that their shipping takes about twice as long as somewhere like best buy. i highly recommend that site though. i was looking at a box set of anime that at best buy, circuit city, amazon all had for 140-150. i got it at deep discount dvd for 80.
Just ordered Tenacious D Complete Masterworks!!!! Finally, my search ends!!!!! Yeah the shipping will take like 5- 10 days, but it's free... you get what you pay for ( in my case) I guess... Thanks!! ( The Criterion Collection is expensive ( to me) there too though)
I've had sellers take four weeks or longer to ship on half.com. The policy on half.com for bad transactions is better than EBay's though, it's possible to get your money back through half.com. IIRC the ranking system for EBay did not show up on someone's half.com ratings. I am not sure why people do not respond to requests for status and don't even have the courtesy to say they have received payent or shipped the item. This happened to me on a small dollar item on EBay once, too. I use Paypal for everything on EBay. One can use a credit card through Paypal if you want to be able to get your money back. There are surcharges for the seller if you use a credit card, though.
I have used deepdiscountdvd.com many times and "saved" (or spent) a good deal of money there. I am so far behind on my movies, I could care less if it takes an extra week, I am happier with cheap prices and free shipping. B
I forgot to add in my eariler post that Deepdiscountdvd has a 20% off sale twice a year or so. One may be coming up around christmas. The shipping delays can get bad but you can get $40 criterions for around $23. Might be a decent time to pick up Rushmore if you can wait that long.
I've used half.com many times and it was always satisfactory. My only complaint is that shipping times vary pretty wildly between the millions of different sellers.
