Yeah at my company we make sure blacks can't use our bathrooms or eat next to us, so take that DEI!

The Incident: As the protesters entered the pool, James Brock, the motel manager, poured muriatic acid into the water to force them out, a move that gained national attention and became a symbol of the struggle for civil rights.

Impact: The event, captured in photographs and widely publicized, played a significant role in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.




This is a disturbing mentality. Imagine feeling so threatened by somebody's skin color that you would do something like that. Are we heading back to the days where people can discriminate loudly and proudly? How far will it the limits stretch in lawful punishment against certain races?

Background of story:

Lots of peaceful protests and demonstrations were responded to with violence, which led to more and more complicated protests.

On June 11, 1964, Martin Luther King, Jr was arrested for trespassing at the Monson Motor Lodge after being asked to leave its segregated restaurant.

This (and other things) helped spur on a group of protesters, black and white, to jump into the pool as a strategically planned event to end segregation at motel pools.

The pool at this motel was designated “white only”. Whites who paid for motel rooms invited blacks to join them in the motel pool as their guests.

 

Would appear we're there now.

 

I pray this isn't the start of a dark time in history for turning racism legal again.

 

Do me a favor. Resist the urge to make this about owning the libs for just a moment. Explain to me why this is a good thing. What was the purpose of this? What is the benefit?

Yeah, I can't think of a single reason other than racism for wanting segregation.

I would like @Salvy to answer it. I'm sure there's some reason that is based in logic and law that contractors need the ability to segregate restrooms, restaurants, etc., etc.

 

It can be any type of segregation people want it to be I guess. I didn't see any stipulations.

This feels like one of those "it's already illegal at every level so this language is redundant" things.

 

That is exactly the case.

The optics are bad but on the outrage meter is this well below the gutting of the government, shutting down of the DOE, massive tax cuts to the ultra wealthy while increasing the deficit, supporting Russia and gutting US international alliances, claiming you will take other countries and deporting like 7% of the population of the USA and getting into a global trade war.

I can get some people being bothered by it based on some of the prior things done by this administration - but right now it is low on the concern meter.

The most important thing to happen in the last week is John Roberts going public and telling Trump to go **** himself on impeachment of the Judges and Steve Bannon addressing all of the discussion of Trump running again in 2028.
