That extra 12 million a year is hard for me to justify for a 30 year old guy when Greenard is a great DE too. Think about the future for a minute, and justify that 12 million extra when we have guys like WAJ, Stingley, and CJ who we should be trying to sign long term, and are going to get paid big dollars. You have to balance it out. Greenard certainly wasn't the liability some of our other guys are, who need replacing. Where's the money going to come from? We are already strapped in free agency with so little to spend, and that's with CJ, WAJ, and Stingley on rookie contracts. Our biggest needs weren't defense when we got rid of Greenard, because all you had to do was look at our offensive line. Now we have the added need of depth at WR. Are we going to get enough starters to replace the weak links and needed depth at WR in the draft?
Holy Cow! That's more than Greenard and Cashman are making combined, and they are 2 and 3 years younger.
That's scrooge mcduck money. Gms around the league are like thanks a lot, Nick. Why the 55 and not 40 million. Something is off. A year has to be missing
Correct me if I'm wrong: He was scheduled to make $19.5M this year and they added on $35.6M next year, making the two-year total $55.1M. This is fine. Myles Garrett reset the market at $40M. Texans are paying Hunter an average of $27.5M per year for the next two years.
Why he need to be the second highest paid? He better be the second highest in sacks in the league not just on the Texans
Per TexansCap, "Initial estimate of $7-7.5m in cap savings for 2025 on Danielle Hunter. Not confirmed."
1) This is a great deal for both Hunter and the Texans. 2) The defense is going to be filthy, assuming everyone stays healthy 3) There is no such thing as the salary cap.
It's mostly a myth. The real part is he gives the hometown a shot to pay him what he think he's worth. If the Hometown agrees, then he's given them the hometown discount since they don't have to overpay to move to a less attractive market or team.
Difference is they can extend out those loans forever. When they decide to eject after a decade or so they declare bankruptcy and take 3-4 years to rebuild their credit again and start the process all over again.
I agree it's a great deal, but assuming health cannot be a plan. Every year, every team deals with injuries. Those who deal best with it appear to not have had a problem and everyone forgets.
I love this signing, Hunter is a beast, its money friendly in terms of the length of the contract and I wanted him longer than the original deal. Our D next year will be NASTY................please LORD, no major injuries next year so we can watch the D feast
