My computer will not start up anymore. It will start to boot up but then it does a CHKDSK and does this over and over again. Any help is deeply appreciated.

P.S. the message says one of disks needs to be checked for consistency.

could be a warning sign that your drive is going bad.

how old is this computer? what OS are you using?

look for a diagnostic utility that checks at the hardware level and run some tests to find out if it is a mechanical problem with the drive...it is possible that it might just be a corrupted FAT that is causing your OS to think it needs to run CHKDSK all the time....but in my experience...it means physical damage to the drive more often than not.

I'm not that good with computers so checking at the hardware level will be hard. I have had the computer for 2 yrs and it runs on xp. I just came home one day and restarted the computer and this happened.
