I was looking at some lineup ratings today; started there to check the latest DOUBLE BIG performance numbers (still elite) but started looking more broadly at our more heavy minutes lineups. Among our six "starters" here are the ranked order of which other starter has been the most statistically effective as a duo for each guy. I think it's interesting that the narrative has been that you can't mesh Sengun and Thompson's lack of shooting when the duo is the single best-performing duo we have in terms of winning their minutes, and Thompson is actually having a lot more issues winning minutes with our scoring guard and our classic 3 and D guy. At any rate, on theme with the thread, I think reading that "best duo" line for the other five guys highlights something pretty clearly. This is not a Jalen hate post and my table should not be used as such. Every single entry on the table is positive because our starters win their minutes.
Jalen’s a certified bum and CDrex has the receipts ^^^ What tool is that, how does Jalen’s numbers stack up against Eason, Holiday, Jeff and Tate?
The 500 or so minutes with Amen, Green, and VanVleet have been horrible. I'm probably one of the lower people on Green on this board, but I think looking at stats in your table make it easy to think Green and Thompson don't fit. Green and Thompson are very good without VanVleet (i.e., much better than the +0.9 suggests). I'd prefer FVV and Amen lineups without Green.
Alperen Sengun’s defensive liabilities are hidden by his teammates. Stats, data and facts might not support this, but this is exactly what the word “hidden” stands for. You can’t see how bad he is. And you don’t even need to see this, you just know he is bad defensively, unless you’re some sort of Sengunatic.
That's interesting. So if the data don't agree with what you believe, then you can just say what you believe is "hidden" and you just KNOW that what you believe is true.
Good share - ty. I think what's key w/ Amen right now is Sengun's gravity unlocks Amen's slashing/dunker spot game. It's not that Amen can't take his man off the dribble or use his array of interior dribble penetration moves, it's just that laying in a 3 foot lightly contested layup is more efficient. I always go back to the Celtics game. That was Amen's game. When you rewatch the 4th, it's clear the attention Sengun demands creates small windows for Amen and that's all he needs. There were possessions where Amen got the ball with only a few seconds left but, crucially, his defenders back was turned helping on Sengun when the pass was made and that tiny window = points. They are an excellent complement. Ironically, the effect is even more pronounced when they have a smaller player (like Jrue that game) trying to defend Alpi b/c the help comes from the guy shadowing Amen (KP) and now you have a 7'3" guy trying to turn around and contest perhaps the most athletic guy in the league. Womp womp. GG's defenses.
Is it right to single out the odd one out from this table? The numbers here seem to hint at some things for the future too.
Who would you trade Jalen for next season if Fred’s coming off the bench? I’d say Booker isn’t the right fit.
For me, FVV would not come off the bench unless there is someone better, and FVV doesn't fit. I think Booker would fit very well with the roster in general, even if I think he would have the same issues Green has when playing with FVV and Amen. I'd send FVV to the bench for Booker if FVV weren't in the trade. Amen, Booker, Brooks, Tari, and Sengun would be a nice lineup. I'd try to add Cam Johnson with Brooks being traded or to the bench. Booker provides the scoring of Green plus some and the playmaking of FVV.
Why was he banned? Was it something in the d and d or what he sh** talking clutch too much? Just curious.
Sengun is the top of every list, Jalen the bottom, by a factor of at minimum 2x, and even up to over 10x I'm honestly kind of shocked how good Jabari's net ratings are, last year he was awful, significantly worse than Jalen.
On the bright side, there is one player who doesn’t have Sengun as best partner and Green as the worst partner. Otherwise it would be too lopsided. if someone can have green as not worst partner, it shows that the problem is not green, it is the others.
If Sengun tops every list, doesn’t that increase his trade value? Could this suggest that Sengun has already peaked? I’m trying to piece together a few thoughts here, because someone being too good might disrupt the chemistry between Amen and Jalen.
