He is concocting the plans. The Tariff nonsense is Trump alone - that fact could not be more clear.

Sure he's got a couple of reluctant cheerleaders explaining after the fact, but the whole thing about punitive tariffs over nonexistent fetanyl to annex canada is pure trump mad king nonsense.

It's not some market speculation scheme, becuase there is no upside or bounce to it. It's just destruction.

I guarantee you it is, he literally tweets out the latest insane modification to his wacky tariff policy every day, and then the policies, eventually, follow - who do you think is controlling it?

Trump is nothing but a snake oil sales man trying to make a buck - he's getting paid for all this tariff junk.

He talks extensively about it and connects it to a period (the Gilded Age) that he thought was great, specifically referencing President McKinley, who he admired. He often says America was very, very rich during that time, but it wasn’t the country as a whole - it was big business and those who were favored by government through corruption.

Here are some of the things McKinley did or tried to do:
    • High tariffs (around 50% on average)
    • Imperialism – U.S. expanded its territory through the acquisition of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines after the Spanish-American War. He also annexed Hawaii in 1898, primarily to secure U.S. interests in the Pacific
    • Pro-big business – supported policies that favored industrial growth and monopolies
    • During this period, the government heavily favored big business and industrialists with minimal regulation, allowing monopolies and trusts like Standard Oil and U.S. Steel to dominate. Political corruption and patronage were rampant - businesses often bribed politicians for favorable laws and regulations. Government jobs were distributed based on loyalty rather than merit (this system is known as the spoils system). Big business controlled elections through direct and significant funding to politicians to protect their interests, while anti-union policies were common, with federal troops frequently sent to break up strikes, such as during the Pullman Strike of 1894.
If this all sounds familiar, now you have a compass to somewhat understand what he's trying to do...

And that whole narrative isn't coming from him. Trump doesn't have the patience to read a history book about McKinley. Dude doesn't even read. Someone fed him all that.

Which ones? The destruction of the US auto industry doesn't really seem to help anybody, not even Tesla. Who is benefitting from it, the Horse & Buggy Lobby?

OK, Century Aluminum is sending money to Trump to cause this economic collapse?

I just looked up their Net Income for Q1, it was $71 million. $71,000,000. That's not that much! Microsoft quarterly profit is $46 billion. $46,000,000,000.

The stock market rout since Trump took over has been around $4 or 5 trillion. $5,000,000,000,000.

    The math doesn't work out.

I think that some of the democrats are trying to stay out of the way, so if disaster comes the blame will be 100% squarely on the shoulders of Queen Trump and not the Democrats of more moderate politicians.

It is a risky play, because it makes the Democrats look even more neutered.

It is cute that you think a president - Biden or Trump - is responsible for gas or egg prices. If you believe that, you are a moron.

Just one company. But there are many players. Anyway, I don't think we can really have a debate here.

You feel he is an idiot and that's why he is doing this. I feel he is getting financial compensation from various players and likely is engaging in market manipulation. We can just agree to disagree.

OK - well I think it's better to expend energy on very real, MASSIVE crimes & harms being perpetrated rather than the oens you are basically just speculating about that don't really appear to exist.

Like, the destruction of the *entire US STEM & Medical & Research Univeristy sectors* is many times more damaging than a hypothetical domestic aluminum tariff cabal, regardless if it's the consequence of a mad king and his idiot jesters (this is happening in plain sight) or some shadowy conspiracy (less likely).

Trillions are a lot more than millions! In fact they're a million millions.
