http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2859202 DALLAS - Texas Instruments announced today that it is developing a chip to allow cell phone users to watch live television broadcasts on the go. TI, which makes chips for more than half the world's mobile phones, said the chip will capture television signals using a new system being developed for cell phones. Dallas-based TI expects the cellular high-definition television technology to be available to the public by 2007. "One by one, the industry's most exciting consumer electronics are being integrated into wireless handsets, allowing consumers to get their news and entertainment whenever and wherever they want," said Gilles Delfassy, TI's senior vice president for wireless. Sprint Corp. and AT&T Wireless already allow some cell phone users to watch television programming, but the service is very slow and offers poor picture quality. Unlike that service, which sends signals over the wireless Internet, TI's technology would capture digital TV signals similar to the ones already being sent by broadcasters.
can't they just focus on building a better internal antenna than all these other superflous crap like TV, cameras, mp3 players?
