    That sounds like an OLED vs. QLED decision or something.

    There are peeps out there that will pay $1000-$3000 more for OLED or the latest and greatest tech in tv's. The blacks on a tv being super black make everything else pop. There's definitely a difference in the view, but whether or not anyone would notice the difference between an OLED and a QLED screen without being an "expert" is debatable. Same with things like surround sound speakers.

    Also, sometimes the latest tech that produces a better pic isn't always better for the situation. Like a 98"/100" tv nowadays has a better picture than almost any projector, but a lot of people choose the projector because, as of now, they'd rather have a 120"+ screen for the "effect" of walking into a theater. I can understand that. I tend to stay away from bleeding edge anyway, because in most cases, you're going to eat the cost in depreciation over the first couple of years while better tech comes out. Meanwhile you went and paid biggie prices to "be first on the block".

    My solution is just to be ignorant. That way you won't know there's anything better out there. "I just bought a 55" DLP that's bigger than a Volkswagen, but MAN those colors are awesome!"

    Remember when Tinman was the go-to person for AV equipment info, Rockets or Street Fighter lore? Then he decided to be ignorant. Not an upwardly mobile choice.

    I am still holding to see what Sony is releasing new. At this point I dont think I am going to tell much difference from a 100 inch Samsung vs a Sony outside of how it plays with my receiver.

    GREAT choices. Depending on when you bought them, they may have appreciated, lulz. I'm hoping my 21 Tacoma lasts 20 more years.

    @Sajan

    Technology is deflationary. Humans get better at finding, creating, and building things as time goes on. We should be working 5-10 hours a week yet living with more material wealth than ever. In a society with a non-inflationary monetary standard, the cost of everything would fall forever. In a society with broken, inflationary money, the cost of everything rises forever.

    An old friend of mine moved back to Austin and decided that he simply had to have the latest 85" 4K Samsung TV. He asked me to come over and admire it, which I did, and then asked if I was interested in his 75" 4K Sony that was 3 years old. After some bargaining, I got it for $500 bucks. Works perfectly. I gave what it replaced to one of my kids and now have slightly darker blacks. Ain't life grand?

    TVs are constantly improving, there is no point in buying the latest and greatest unless you just have cash to burn. Buy the latest and greatest from 2, 3 years ago used. Then keep doing that.
