....and it's only been a few days. I recently bought a Steelcase Leap v2 chair for $460.00 from a local office liquidator and it has been a godsend so far. No more neck pain and much better posture at my desk at work. I almost got a Herman Miller Aeron size C. Admittedly, I did some research on different chairs before trying them out in person.
Did you try a Steelcase Gesture? I got a Herman Miller Embody back in 2017 for home (there's an ergonomic chair thread around here somewhere) just so I wouldn't have to buy a new Staples/Office Depot chair every 2 years because they start falling apart, creaking, or failing. I still use it daily. The seat is getting a bit less comfy and one of the armrests is kind of ripped in an obscure location, but it's got a 12-year warranty that I plan to take advantage of.
I very much like my Steelcase Leap V2. I first bought one for $100 from a guy closing down his office. Thank you, pandemic. This became my home office chair. I later bought a used Herman Miller Embody for $450 after tax from a used office supply company as my work chair. I tried it for a few months but could never get comfortable in it. The thin fabric and harder plastics didn't feel good to sit in. I ended up selling it for $600 on Craigslist and found another Leap V2 for $175 to use at work. I prefer the cushions on Steelcase chairs, something Herman Miller stays more with mesh designs. I like to fold my legs sometimes when I sit, which is much more comfortable on cushioned chairs. Never got a chance to try a Steelcase Gesture.
$460 for a premium office chair is good. $2k+ is the standard. It’s like a good mattress- if you spend a lot of time there, you should get something that is good for your body and is super comfy, angels and all. I’ve been rocking a Humanscale Freedom (with headrest) for a decade. It has a lifetime Warranty but I was given this chair from a vendor so I couldn’t claim on it. Had to replace the armrest pads once when the plastics broke, parts were $40.
I am super envious; I sit in my office chair about 5 hours per day and I have a cheap a$$ chair from Staples, halfway through the day I am squirming, and the arm rests are permanently indented and ripping..............my company be cheap like that
I understand It is always about your experience If you write alot . . . people don't understand the affinity to a delightful Pen/Pencil Good Balance. . .. easy flow. . . .effortlessly makes my chicken scratch look legible I can see the same thing about a chair (anything really) Once you find THE ONE . .. . why F around and mess with anything else Rocket River
I thought about it, but I pretty much lasered in on the Leap and the Amia. The Leap seat cushion is working out really well for me; plus, I'm getting the hang of all the adjustments.
I have a Herman Miller Aeron size C. Bought it used but it was and still in great condition. Expensive chairs are worth it - your body will thank you later. Health is wealth.
After you said that, I had to look at what chairs like the Leap and Embody were selling for now, and holy hell, you're right. It's the retail price, anyway. Back when I bought my Embody in 2017, I think the website price was probably $1000-$1200. I went through an office furniture supplier and got mine new for around $900-something. Even then it took me a few months to finally say "yes" to buying an office chair for that price. Now it's something like $1900-$2000 on the website. No way I'd buy one for that price. A crappy office supply store chair and back surgery may be a cheaper option. There are "knock-off" ergonomic chairs out there that people say are almost as good that you can get from places like Costco that may be worth the price.
