100% this. It's good for teams to have flexibility to punish particular matchups. It's a positive sign for a young term...but this doesn't mean we should run a double big lineup all the time - only when there is something to exploit. Speaking of something to exploit - this game probably looks different if Jalen Suggs were able to play and terrorize our poor PG depth right now. We gotta get some PGs back healthy sooner rather than later.
This team needs to bring in better asistant coaches. The double big has worked but it doesn’t look pretty on the 2-3 zone. . They have the and issue with that as they do on their regular defense switching, this is jsut not a very smart team. They mess up the switches all the time and they do the same thing with the pass off. A good passing team will early beat that double big zone. Too many times is aw two players I the same spot on theat zone meaning somebody didn’t move to where they were suppose to. I’m frustrated with Ine and part of the development is his fault but one why he wants more vets. Coaching this young team to learn through trial has to be as frustrating as us watching it. bring back Jeff Bzedelic. Those assistant coaches are as worthless as the one for the Silas era
at one point Adams, Alpi, 'Bari, Tari, and Brooks were on the floor together, with Tari essentially playing the 2. worked surprisingly well I thought, and Segun/Adams had excellent chemistry.
Adams referenced his time playing as a double big with Ibaka back in OKC. If Sengun had range like Ibaka, that'd be great, but they are both such good passers anyways, I think it works. Teams can (and probably will pack the paint against that lineup, but Jalen/Bari/Tari/Brooks/Freddy could potentially make them pay, and then we just dominate the boards anyways if and when we miss.
It will work in spurts against all teams except Warriors, Celtics and Kings. Those are the teams that shoot 36+ threes per game with over 27 assists or higher.
A good test will be the double big lineup against Miami when we play them. Spoelstra is the ultimate X’s and O’s Coach. It jsut takes high iq to beat it. Not one player
Give him the twos. Some of you have no willingness to try. If it doesn't work, you fall back. Glad Ime takes chances with strategy. I can tell you the exact moment he was inspired. Sengun scores 14 pts in the first half with no resistance against Porzingis. Celtics brings in Kornet plus Zingis to neutralize the threat.
This has been the most impressive Sengun has looked all yr, I think he flourish more at the PF or when he's playing next to another big. Since he's a smaller big, how does this work long term? I've always said that Jabari, right now, is a better SF, than PF due to his size and the ability to shoot the 3pt shot. However as he gets bigger, he will be a good PF. I've always said that we need a big center, a true center. So, my question is, is this a vision of player pigeon wholes to come? How players best fit? Is Sengun a PF? Jabari a PF? Tari a PF? We can't have 3 PFs
I think the point is Jokic would carve it up with passing. But, I don’t actually think we’d need to run zone … Adams takes Jokic and Sengun does his roamer thing. Jokic isn’t a lob threat, so our hedging PnR defense can work, to avoid Adams getting stuck on an island.
Sengun is similar to Pau Gasol in alot of ways, and I think he's skilled enough like Pau where he can find ways to not be a liability if he isn't shooting 3's. It's just the matter of coaching, and having really good guard play with a ton of movement in your sets to make it work. Defensively...like Gasol, Sengun is challenging to play at the 5 full time with the physicality so I do think it's smart to pair him with a true big man long term if he is going to stay with us longterm. You can always go small with Sengun at the 5, and help with good perimeter defensive wings. But I think it makes sense to use that option for at least good chunks of the game where you need to lock down the paint defensively. Big question is how well Adams plays in the postseason, and home stretch, and next year if the team feels like they need to go get an upgrade over Adams or if they are confident enough resigning him to a veteran deal that is slightly above market with the assumption he'll be playing a big role next season.
lulz. I’m tempted to count this up myself by reading the pbp and adding some context … this is just ridiculous
Yeah Jabari's ability to get that grown man strength (which is inevitable with age) is the big question, and if the Rockets want to wait years for it to come. I do think Jabari will be a super valuable Al Horford type big, but I just don't know how long it will take for him to get that strong. Jabari can play the 3 right now too which is great to have, but the question is if the Rockets are better with Brooks, Tari, Amen, etc. being given those minutes??.. I dunno. Right now with injuries it's okay to work with what we got, but come this Summer Stone has some tough decisions to make where we might see a guy like Jabari two or three seasons later look like the person solution for our future problems that we traded away to solve short term issues.
