I will say one thing. I cannot tell the difference between Vermont and Canadian Maple Syrup. Lots made here in NY as well. Just my way of helping any of you Pancake and waffle eating folks out there, that are worried about your syrup tax.
I love it when my 401k goes down for a while. More for my dollars deducted to grab. And the Market always bounces back. But I have 8 years till retirement. Some closer I suspect are feeling angst
None of our local conservatives want to comment? I mean I can @ El_Conq and his alt Stros4Bros but I have a feeling id get the same exact answer from both of them lol.
At least you have a luxuriously built home to retire in. You're the one that had the custom pool put in right? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else here...
Can one of our market-savvy libertarians educate me on whether a steep red line on a stock market graph is a good or bad sign? Thanks!
Thank Trump for wiping out everyone's portfolio. But I'm glad that it happened to the people who voted for him.
Older workers are getting hit HARD. Massive layoffs at the government level - coupled with many of the worker protections stripped.... then the cost of staple goods continue to rise... and then top it all off with slamming their 401K and pension accounts. Couple that with serious talks about cutting social security benefits and the pulling of funding for meals on wheels. If I were a Republican politician I would wonder if I will ever get the over 60 demographic again.
Theres no way Milton Friedman supported tariffs, virtually any and all market intervention is seen as the devil to his line of thinking. This topic is something economic libertarians and neo-liberals should be pounding their chest on. I don't mind having some levels of economic protectionism, if it's executed properly with clear benefits to the median american person.
Younger people are going to also feel the effects of this due to having to spend more money now to take care of their elderly parents. So it's just going to increase the cost of living across the board.
Trump might want a recession early in his term so he can blame it on Joe, he might try to reverse course later to improve the economy, we will see.
This is a good point - but as it currently is constructed younger people are just ****ed. They are hurt more by inflation than anyone other than the elderly - they are in a world where homeownership is probably not likely because of private equity firms buying them - where both spouses have to work and many that are single are living at home or with roommates - and if the federal income tax is erased, their actual tax rate with explode as well. The only real "sweet spot" in the economy right now is for married couples over 35 that have both spouses working and have graduate degrees .... they have large homes in the suburbs with equity and usually have newer vehicles and vacations.... but their lives are consumed with work, travel - their weekends are nothing but taking their children to various events because they spent so little time with them during the week..... and while their 401K's are usually healthy, their expenses are insane between childcare, work related costs etc. Compare that to 30 years ago when the "sweet" spot was much larger and the choice of both spouses working for someone with a graduate degree was a choice and not a necessity - they had more free time, big but not as big homes and lots of free time.
This would be a mistake - if there is a recession, Trump will be held responsible for it. The MAGA and most Republicans will still support Trump, but it only takes 5% of his support to not vote or abandon him and his power is largely marginalized. A recession - after he has made so many radical changes will hurt him a great deal.
If it's early enough into Trump's term, the right wing capture of media from social media to cable news will successfully convince Americans beyond the hardcore MAGA base that the recession was due to the previous admin policies. That is what I fear.
I agree, just pointing out why he might be doing this, but who really knows what he is thinking, LOL.
