Yes - perhaps he isn't consistently working on or doing the things that he is being asked to do. They are trying to prevent him turning into a one-dimensional player that is unplayable down the stretch or against good teams. No one needs another Swaggy P.
Boy that is true, he is a conundrum for me, because he doesn't always play hard, sometimes he loafs....and doesn't get into the game for an entire half. I don't know what to think about Alpi, if he had a 3pt shot I would love him but because he doesn't....and he doesn't always compete.....I dunno.....maybe he figures it out, maybe he gets traded. DD
I agree. I really think that if he develops a three-point shot that he can become a top 10 offensive player in the league.
That's fair, I guess for me it means not a consistent all-star player - someone who makes a few all star teams but is not an every year guy. So, yes, he is an all star, he earned that, I am still not sure I would build around him as he is not a superstar player, IMHO. DD
Forget the 3-point shot. If Alpi had Scola's mid-range jumper, he'd be at another level. So many times Scola would burst out with 8-12 points in the 1st quarter on elbow jumpers while defenses started the game focused on Yao and McGrady. Just imagine if defenders were forced to guard Alpi out to 15-17 feet instead of sagging off. This would unclog the paint and unlock the offense. Alpi might average 9-10 assists per game.
He is 20, a lot of mental issues but one thing is he isn't benefitting from being on a Playoff contender as one might think because he is far from being ready playing in the Playoffs. Hate to say it but he belongs on a bottom team. From the Rockets standpoint, he isn't playable for certain, but at the point in time when he was drafted, the Rockets were merely outside of the Play In at best. The Rockets made the jump in 1 season, the 19 year old didn't, I don't see a problem there. You can't expect everything to fall in place.
Funny how many thought Cam was going to suddenly get big minutes. He might get some minutes soon, maybe next game, but he’s still not a favorable option and cannot be relied upon consistently. Questioning Ime is fine, but not over how dealing with Cam, especially now. He’s shown terrible body language and just not being engaged with the team on the floor.
I guess.. maybe it’s also match-up related, idk. Orlando has a solid defense and play onna slower pace, which can be problematic for a guy like Cam. I think that against the Suns he might get some minutes, and hopefully he will deliver in those minutes.
I think Cam should play more, but I don't see how anyone can reach this conclusion. Trade him why? There's no equal return we could get for him right now really because we all think he has a lot of potential. We aren't getting a "win-now" player for him, and we're happy to let him slowly develop at the end of our bench. I'd be sick if we traded him for nothing, and no one is valuing him as highly as us.
Some coaches are very stubborn and rigid in their ways. Cam is going to make a lot of people look dumb when he goes off on another team.
