Damn. I'm sorry for your loss. Being a similar age, I can't imagine something much scarier to happen.

Thanks Buck and my daughter-in-law enrolled the girls in a program that Brian Griese started in Colorado ( https://judishouse.org/ ). Brian lost his mom when he was 12 and wanted to do something for kids that lost someone close. It's been tough on my granddaughters, they were both daddy's girls and were playing on basketball teams with this happened. Of course their dad was their biggest fan. The oldest won is an amazingly mature spirit and was even comforting me at one point. The younger one is have a really tough time. My wife, other 3 kids, and close family are rallying around them and each other. It's not something you get over, but learn to live with. I'm also looking for ways to continue to celebrate my son's remarkable spirit and I've got some ideas that I hope to work on soon.

My condolences, @Shark44 - he seemed like a really good dude.

And I agree on the part about getting checked out. Hell, even if you don't feel you have any issues, get checked out yearly. Especially for things like potential kidney, heart, etc. issues that can go undetected with no real symptoms until they've advanced.

Omg, I’m so incredibly sorry. I’m typing this out and there are tears running down my face. This is a parents worst nightmare. I’m searching for words, but know there is nothing I can say that will make you feel better. That said, my sincerest condolences to you and your family.

My son’s now 15 and 12, in their rooms are about to get a visit from me so I can tell them I love them.

I’m so glad that you got to share and experience so much with Talon. He seemed to be a great human being and that is a direct reflection on you.

Thank you for sharing this difficult time with us. It pains me that we need to be reminded just how fragile life is. Nothing but love to you and your family.

Yall figure out what his favorite things in life were, and contribute to that. That's what we did after dad passed, and it won't make the hurt go away, but it made us smile, thinking "that's what he would have wanted"

So sorry for your loss, friend. Thank you for sharing so much about him and his life, and also for the words of advice.

I’m 39 and a father to 3 little ones, and this hits hard. I haven’t been great about yearly physicals over the past few years, but I’m going to get back into a regular schedule. It’s important, and could be a life saver. Thank you. Sorry again for your loss, take care of yourself. We’re all here for you.

Thanks @mikol13 for your heartfelt words! 15 and 12 are great ages. Enjoy these years because once they turn 18 life seems to accelerate before you realize it.

Thanks @Bryant2108! I remember thinking I was invincible until about 40. My dad use to say, "If you don't take care of yourself, you can't take care of anyone else."

I cannot overstate how incredibly sorry I am for your loss. As others have said, no parent should have to bury their kid. Heartbreaking. Doubly so because your son seems like he was a great dude. He probably learned from you and modeled how you built a great relationship with him. That is not as common as it should be and I would guess that your relationship with Talon might be your greatest accomplishment. That is how I would feel.

I have two kids in college and they are my pride and joy. Your post made me think of them and, the next time I see them, I will hug them one extra time as a tribute to you and your relationship with your son. Also, I have definitely been more of a dick in the D and D forum because of the election, but your post is a reminder to get the sh-t together and cut it out. So I will.

Again, I cannot overstate how sorry I am for your loss.
