Saw it last weekend; it was pretty underwhelming and I can see why it bombed at the box office. No hardy, no Charlize, Hemsworth being a caricature, cheap CGI, meh plot(including the inexplicable decision to sit in silence with Hemsworth at the end instead of killing him), and while I like Ann Taylor, having to carry that movie and replace Theron was never going to go well. Skipping over the 40 days war was a bizarre decision and the soundtrack was bad too
Even though I liked the movie (compared to the average hollywood movie), I can't refute any of what you're saying. sigh. Definitely not Miller's best effort, IMO.
I also liked the movie but it was definitely not as good as Fury Road. I too was like "WTF did they not show the 40 days war!?" Maybe saving more footage for the Director's Cut release?
Yeah, I had a similar reaction but just had the impression that the people making the movie were getting bored with their own plot and/or running out of money. If you don't think something is interesting enough to show in a movie, maybe update the plot?
It was almost a cry for help! Let's mix in some of the better movie into ours... I will admit I'd rather rewatch Furiosa than The Acolyte!
I finally watched this, now that it's on HBO. Frank Miller definitely has the "comic book eye". A bunch of the really "artsy" shots would have done just as well if they'd been still panels in a 'graphic novel'. They were all beautifully done eye candy. Fury Road has kind of a weird one-note feel because the extended action sequences. This feel much more of a traditional story while still having a bunch of action. i relied on a BUNCH of CGI and digital editing it all looked a decade out-of-date and cheap as hell. Was Sin City levels of bad in a couple of spots. I loved the insanity of a lot of Dementus' dialog. I though he did a great job.
This was George Miller. It sounds like you’re conflating Frank and George, two entirely different people. Anyway, finally finished this movie in my third session. I think it was way too short for the scope of the movie, and four hours probably wasn’t enough, either. An HBO miniseries probably would have done it justice. What was Furiosa and Jack’s relationship? Why just a quick gloss of the 40 day war? We want to see badass car battles and even though there were a lot, there was room for more. Wasted effort, IMO, especially after the sublime Fury Road.
Disagree, see my review above. Should have been a 300m mini-series. Netflix routinely spends $200m+ on their movies.
