Reed has shown that he has some on ball PG talent but whether he becomes a Nash/Steph type superstar, a solid starter, or a good role player - he will need to develop as a reliable catch and shoot player. It's just a requirement for a good small guard in the modern nba. There were many times he was just outplayed by end of the bench types like Aaron Holiday this year because he couldn't do the simple things. I expect him to take this as a focus area in the offseason. This will likely be even more important next year if the Rockets trade for a star perimeter playmaker. He will never get to just "play through it" on a winning team like the current rockets, the way some of his teammates did when we sucked. He will need to consistently outplay other role players to earn minutes before getting an opportunity for a bigger role.
Some of the concerns about his height are overblown. Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland are practically the same height give or take an inch from Reed. (Garland 6.1, Reed 6.2, Mitchell 6.3) Reed clearly has a great shooting stroke and just needs to bulk up during the offseason so he isn't bullied on offense. Reed can easily surpass FVV's ceiling.
Reed posted all his fav pics from the season on his ig with no caption. That basically tells you he’s shut off for the year. Steven Adams commented with a rainbow flag emoji. @Snow Villiers
“Worst” is also somewhat nebulous. If it’s least productive Reed is up there. If it’s actively harming his team in his minutes Reed is nowhere close to worst. For me worst is probably “wow our evaluation on this guy was way off” and in that category Reed is also nowhere close to Bennett, Thabeet, or Fultz. Darko didn’t play enough to get to the point of those other three, though the pick looked really bad with what the guys picked right behind him were doing. I don’t think the evaluation of Reed is all that different at this moment other than his floor being somewhat lowered. He looked fantastic in summer league and g league and in his one real ball in the hands + long leash games he had one of the best performance any rookie has put up this season. Castle goes ahead of him in a redraft. Probably Ware. After that idk if many are jumping him yet even though some guys have proven they’ll have a long term spot in the NBA and Reed hasn’t yet.
At 9:44 left in the 2nd quarter he slapped down on the ball in Zion's hands, and you can see him look down and grab his hand.
Yeah just rewatched it. Can see him grabbing it during the Zion free throw. Then high fives Amen with it lol.
It’s weird, because he not only stayed in for two more minutes, he also played 5 1/2 minutes in the 4th Q, and looked fine.
Different finger and non shooting hand, but I literally just broke the finger tip at the joint on my ring finger 3 weeks ago. It happened in basketball, I thought it was just a bad jam and kept playing a few more games. Hurt a little but nothing that would stop even an average baller from playing on.
To be fair, Fultz turned out a pretty good league defender, it is his Offense that did not develop......
He’s still holding on to a spot in the league (though barely) and he had some OK seasons with the Magic. But after his first year his shot was obviously completely jacked and expectations for him were drastically lowered. I think that’s about as bad of a rookie season as there is for a top pick.
