your lack of knowledge on how the economy works is apparent.

The danger of single payer health care... WOW

(and you are way too concerned over school shootings -- the probability of this happening to you is incredibly low)

Thanks for taking the time. Got French Canadian ties, so that's always a possibility in the future, but have concerns myself

I waited less than an hour in an ER in Scotland and wasn't charged a cent. It was way better than going to an ER in Houston.

Average ER wait times in the USA to see a doctor are 20-40 minutes. In Canada it's 1-2 hours -- so 3x the wait. WOW

When you go to the ER, every second matters. Could be the difference between life, death, permanent dismemberment, vision loss, or sterilization.

    GOOD DAY

Wouldn't Quebec being a remote place with severe weather factor in to it's ability to retain talent leading to these wait times?

And yet I would go choose Canada 100% of the time.

Montreal's glory days have long since passed. The current government has really ratcheted up the anti-English laws and you routinely hear stories of people with non-French last names dealing with job discrimination because they arent proper "French Quebecers." And as the government pushes more French in the workplace, Quebec is losing its best jobs and employers (because those jobs were always conducted in English). There historically have been exemptions for non-Canadian companies to operate exclusively in English in Quebec (which is how all of the tech companies and video game studios have been operating there) but the government is trying to kill those exemptions. On top of that, they've started enforcing French language requirements on English universities like McGill and they've started diverting money away from McGill and the other English universities. They have what was at one time a top 20 global university in their city but they're effectively trying to destroy it because that university operates only in English.

It's still a wonderful place to visit and frankly if you speak French and can work remotely for a non-Quebec employer, you can live a very nice life. But the state of health care is so bad that I ruled it out. And as someone who doesn't speak French (even though I'm pretty confident I could pick it up over time), I'd rather not deal with the hostility towards English.

If you want exposure to French, I'd suggest Ottawa instead. Ottawa is in Ontario so society still operates in English but it borders Quebec and is the seat of government so they really push bilingualism in Ottawa. Most kids attend French immersion schools there and if want French exposure, you can just cross the river and go to the Quebec suburbs that border Ottawa. There are also some francophone neighbourhoods on the Ontario side as well. And because it's in Ontario, the health care system is better than Quebec's (although Ottawa's system is overburdened because people from Quebec use the Ottawa hospitals because the hospitals on the Quebec side are overburdened).

Quebec's problem is its language laws. Because doctors have to speak French, most doctors from the rest of Canada (or the US) will have no way to practice there. And Quebec is the one province that has some private health care so doctors are increasingly leaving the public system for the private system. Quebec's government is broke and doesn't have the resources to pay enough to keep doctors in the public system. It's led to a death spiral where Quebec lacks public family doctors and walk in clinics (because doctors went to the private system) so people go to the ER for minor things. That in turn balloons ER waits and overburdens the ER staff. This is the same thing happening in the UK. They have the same two tier public/private system and the same brain drain to the private system is happening there as well which has resulted problems in the public system.

I've been to the ER twice in Canada (once for my wife and once for my child). Both times we were instantly admitted after triage because they were serious cases. Like the US, Canadian ERs triage patients based on severity. So a severe case will get priority while a less severe case might have to wait.

Also the average ER wait in the US is not 20-40 minutes. That number is for acutely ill patients. If you factor in ER visits for non-serious cases, that number increases to over 2 hours.

Don't worry, we will soon get an explanation of how the market was performing to well and it was bound to come down, so this is all normal and nothing that is being caused by Trump's policies, just bad timing.

Look for more "distractions" as this gets worse. maga folks won't care as long as there owning the libs....BUT the fringe voters who voted for this will not put up with it and it's not even the worst yet, wait until SNAP is off the table. trumps team will twist themselves in lies as to the "why", but it looks like a recession is in the cards for us.................if this was how America was great back in the day, then dam, this aint so great

the craziest part is that this is all 100% self-inflicted…akin to slashing your own tires or deliberately and intentionally destroying the engine, then going and blaming someone else once the car veers off the road, runs into a light pole, and blows up

have you seen a single MAGAT argue about Trumps economic policies? When Biden was POTUS @Salvy and the other cultists would complain 24/7 about the economy.

Suddenly the only thing MAGAT care about are trans folks or "woke." Trump has them distracted with culture war bullshit while he destroys the economy.

This was always the plan as I predicted

MAGA never actually cared about the economy…it was just an excuse to justify their support because they don’t want to say the real reasons
