Wrong, he was forced to start Alp when Alp outplayed + outlasted every single big that Stone + Silas tried to start ahead of him from Christian Wood to Daniel Theis to Bruno Fernando.
Yeah, probably. It might have been something that you could see happening last season--not so sure now. But I'm not sure Trey can play shooting guard, so it might require further changes.
I'd love to trade for him or any other really great shooter, but in the context of "what should be done about Jalen"--can he play SG?
Extremely high IQ player who spends as much time in film room studying opponents as he does honing his game - defense, playmaking + expanding his shooting platforms. Averages same assists as Jalen (3) + superior 3P%. JJ Reddick asks Cam Johnson to break down shooters' quirks for him.
Jalen didn’t play that bad today — his defensive effort was solid, and while his shooting was subpar, he wasn’t forcing up a bunch of bad shots. He moved the ball well, made smart passes, and picked his spots. A few aggressive drives stood out, including an and-1 and a setup for Adam’s putback dunk. There’s a reason he stayed on the floor for nearly 35 minutes despite the cold shooting — he was contributing in other ways.
All this Jalen slander lol. The guy is tired and should be not missing a game in 2 years. Every other starter getting rest games but Jalen
I agree. The only reason he was not in most of 3rd was the Triple Big + Amen lineup was so effective getting stops + regaining lead.
I think you're defending something that I'm not saying? I didn't say Stone is blaming Udoka or that Udoka deserves the bulk. I said it's joint and if I had to bet/speculate, I would obviously bet on the guy with historically stubbornly poor offensive showings. Was talking about his offensive CV.
If I misunderstood then I apologize, did not mean to misstate your position as fact rather than speculation. On another note, how did you like Udoka's 2nd half adjustment with his Triple Big + Amen lineup? The repercussions on offense as well as defense were pretty stunning.
Haven't watched the game yet but looks like another bad offensive game from Jalen? Needs to be better even if the team is easy to beat. I wonder from the box score if he was asked to not worry about scoring (he didn't take much shots) and focus on filling Fred's role as a facilitator and off ball shooter. If he played some good defense and made some important plays, that's good to hear. Glad to see others stepping up though. Hopefully we keep shaking off that rust and build some momentum starting with a 3-game winning streak.
NOP specifically schemed to limit Jalen, just as HOU defensively targeted stopping Zion. 2nd half, especially 3rd, was must watch!
I don't like Jalen type of soft and inconsistent players but l do'nt understand the hate on Jalen. Jalen is Jalen.. He is not the superstar that fanbase here dream here or hype about him. He will never be this team or any NBA teams #1 option, cause basketball needs high basketball iq and he lacks it. But He tries hard, he shows effort and for this reason he deserves some praise for this. He is accustomed to be an only scorer player, but in the last matches his asists, his two man game with Sengun really deserves recognition. But this Jalen Green hype should end, c'mon 4 whole years have passed, just leave Jalen alone. It is not a good thing to put stress on him and act if he is a superstar. Cause he is not, he is a good NBA player, but no chance for him to be franchise player...No chance.
I was pretty infuriated. It made our offense and theirs proportionately worse, yielding no benefit for us. Not sure what advantage we gained. What infuriated me was that it's becoming obvious that he has a serious personal stubbornness about playing guys who can shoot but are not good defenders. On the flip side he constantly plays guys who defend but are terrible offensively. I don't know why we can't just treat offense and defense the same and just find the right balance. Elite head coaches are two-way coaches. I've speculated this before: if you watch his pattern, it seems he is willing to do anything but what Mazzula is championing. In fact, he seems to insist on doing the exact opposite. The problem with that is Mazula is an offensive genius and there's no benefit for us in ignoring modern offensive pioneers. Considering what we know about Ime's past and his general behavior, it's pretty obvious he has a strong narcissistic streak. A narcissist would classically be extremely resentful towards his assistant who went on to outshine him. It's pretty telling that he hasn't filled that spot, probably thinking anyone can do what Mazzula does and this time wanting to take credit for it and avoiding the paranoia of another assistant outshining him. I don't have any proof of this of course, just what I know about psychology and these assumptions. At least we got the W. The team just needs to rekindle chemistry, have a stable lineup and build some momentum. If he can stop micro-managing for a minute, we'll be fine against an easy schedule.
He shot the ball poorly, but i don't think it was an especially bad game from him, he was just in a different role.... and he did a good job of it, and that helped the team win. He had 8 assists to only 2 turnovers, which is what the team needed from him that night.
Jalen is a stopgap player. Not a longterm player. Zach Lavine, Bradley Beal, Jordan Poole, Tyler Herro, etc. Great 6th men but want to be "the guy" so end up being excellent tank commanders for rebuilding teams that want to kick the tires on them while they draft their future. He's much better than say a Christian Wood or KPj and right now is our best option at SG (because he's really our only option at SG). If you see him for what he is then its fine. If you're expecting him to be more than that you'll end up getting frustrated at him. It's partly the coaches/staffs fault for leaning into him in a similar way that Morey did with Ariza that one time hoping he could turn him into a star. I think hes fine on the team and as a starter but we need an actual alternative with a brain between his ears (meaning no Cam).
