[The Athletic] JUST IN: The Texans are finalizing a trade for Jaguars WR Christian Kirk, sources tell Dianna Russini. Houston will send a 2026 seventh-round pick to Jacksonville for Kirk.
I like it. I really thought to myself that he would be a target for BDN when I saw his release yesterday.
He can play in 8 games and Diggs [/insert receiver here] will play in the other 9 games. Spoiler 2018 rookie year: broken foot (missed final 4 games) 2019: ankle injury (missed 3 games) 2020: groin (missed one game); covid (missed one game) 2023: groin tear (missed five games) 2024: broken collarbone (missed nine games) $16.5M expiring (at least it’s not a 2nd?!)
As long as his cap number drops as part of this, I'm all on board. He was the guy I wanted when I thought he was a free agent. Kirk is a talented dude who has proven he can thrive in a secondary role for multiple teams now; he's just super reliable. He'll cost a lot less than Metcalf, and he's a lot younger than Kupp and Adams. I still think they should consider looking at a WR in the draft if someone falls who's a good value and fits what they need at the position. But this addresses a huge hole. Curious to see if they still try to add another WR in free agency, but I'd much rather see them spend on interior o-line.
he has the other trait Cap loves, chain mover. 55 first downs his last healthy season that's more than 2023 Collins or 2021 Deebo. This move shouldn't stop them from selecting a WR in the first three rounds. However, rookie needs to be over 5'11 now. We're over the quota
My proposal: 2025: $1.5M + $4M SB = $5.5M (saves about ~$10M in cap space) 2026 (void): $4M SB 2027 (void) $4M SB 2028 (void) $4M SB
Aggie fans are gonna love this… I like it, we can still draft a guy to develop while it’s not as pressing to find a couple good guys through the draft alone.
