You understand that this argument works both ways? Alp would average +10 AST if Rockets were not 26th in FG% and 24th in 3P%.
he only averages 9.1 potential assists, even if the rockets shot 100% on his passes he wouldn't get to 10
Sure, but 10 is a crazy stretch. There are only 2 guys which average 10, trae who is a perimeter player and light years better of a passer and obviously jokic, the absolute GOAT archetype and beyond light years better passer, creator, way better vision, way better hoops IQ. You could argue he would go from 4.8 to 5.3 or something but 10 is silly.
I’m not arguing against Alpi - I’m saying if we had players who could actually finish (catch and shoot) at even a semi decent clip our assist would go up across the board for all players
Potential assists are actual passes that are not converted. But teams like Rockets who are at bottom of AST rankings, you also have to factor in the non-pass due to not trusting teammates to convert. If sabonis can average 8.2 AST (last season) on a top 10 offense we can extrapolate a player with similiar or more enhanced passing skillset like Sengun has ability do same if not more. Of course, this is just my opinion.
Again, we are talking about POTENTIAL assist, creating a shot for a teammate. It has nothing to do with whether the shot goes in or not. Of course if the shot goes in, the assist number will be better. But it does not change the potential assist number. The low potential assist number means that he doesn't do a lot of setting up his teammates when he has the ball.
and once again he’s not asked to, he’s only asked to run rhe PnR with Alpi or dribble handoff… that’s our offensive sets. Yall act like we run some type of motion offense that creates a lot of assist opportunities - his choices are (drive, pass it to Alpi , or kick it back out (which usually ends up in a swing pass) hockey assist for 3 does it show as a assist or potential assist (no)
4.4 assists in this calibre offense is usually an automatic 5-6 assists in an average offense, so maybe the potential assist stats have merit. I've said it before, all our guys have been playing in an artificially deflated offense which pushes down their numbers down. I thought Udoka would be able to improve our spacing given shooting development from Brooks/Green/Amen but nothing. We've been near-bottom TS% for almost 4 years now. Spacing increases and reduces player efficiency. That's the only reason anyone even keeps track of it. Whatever is the opposite of rose colored glasses, we're wearing the opposite of them. If you attempted to make things as unflattering and difficult on our young players as possible, you would struggle to do a "better" job than the past 4 years. We keep hearing it's about size or skill or "it" but look what the same stupid idea did to 6'10 250lbs Banchero's star credentials. Last season, Cade was a disappointment and Banchero was a sure fire star. Then Jaden Ivey goes down in Detroit and JBB is forced to start an excellent shooter at the 1 - just a role player (Beasley) but an excellent one-way shooter. Essentially their Aaron Holiday. Can't possibly happen just with more role player shooting, has to be a superstar we add right otherwise there's no point? Well now it's "I wish we had Cade" instead of "I wish we had Banchero". Just like when we played Amen and Jabari at the 4/5 last season and we went HAM on 11 straight easy teams at a contender winning rate. Some of these posters have the memory of a goldfish.
My biggest problem with Jalen is his defense has regressed since the start of the season. He cares more about playing every game instead of winning every game.
Maybe it's that i have lower expectations for Green than a lot here, but I'm not all that disappointed in him this season. Would the Rockets be better off if they could swap Jalen for one of the many players better than him from his draft class? Sure, but that's not terribly productive to talk about. He's the guy we've got and we can't change the past. As I see it, he's shown some improvement which is all you can ask for. Is he a quality defensive player? Of course not, but no one should expect him to be one, but he's no longer one of the absolute worst in the NBA. It's he a league average 3 point shooter among SG's? No, but his 3 has become respectable. Is he a quality ball handler? Of course not, no one should expect him to be, but he does occasionally have his moments and he's not as hopeless as he once was..... and it's not his fault they allow him to be in that kind of role. The progress is painfully slow, and he's still probably better as a 6th man than a starter, but it's still progress.... and imo that's enough to avoid being too disappointed.
His defense has regressed the more injured he is, he’s protecting himself by not fighting through screens as hard … his one on one defense is still pretty good…he’s playing to win to say he’s not is a dumb assumption
So so many excuses. His defense suffers due to injuries - check His inability at the rim is due to fouls not called - check His turnovers are high because he is asked to carry more when FVV is out - check What happen in those good games where he plays good D, scores well and doesn't turn it over, where are those injuries in that game? He is just INCONSISTENT - that's the truth, no excuses. DD
How about you listen to Udoka and his teammates and use your common sense - but you only want to do that when it fits the narrative you want to craft if his knee and ankle is hurt and he’s playing with a thigh contusion then no he’s not going to run through screens or dive on floor…. If he wasn’t battling these issues Ime has shown time and time again he will bench players no matter who they are
He gets to the rim, he doesn’t draw many fouls (be it a bloody mouth or black eye) video evidence exist his turnover rate still isn’t HIGH it increased from 2.2 up to whatever it is now since FVV is out, that is a fact not a excuse… he’s handling the ball more hence he has more chances to turn the ball over Jesus - know the differences between excuses and facts no one made a excuse for his last game it was his first bad performance in awhile
Have you thought about it like this? Now, this is just me BUT do you think the reason his defense may have slipped in YOUR eyes, is because he has PLAYED IN EVERY GAME?
Then he should take some games off if that's what it takes. Something you choose to do, that you don't need to do, can't be used as an excuse.
You were all about excuses for KPJ, but not Jalen. He is inconsistent. He is 22 years old. He is playing for the worst offensive coach in the league. Call them excuses if you want, but fans were making excuses for Cade the last couple of years, they made excuses for Kobe when he was young. Simply put, our young core is being berated for being too good for their age, fueling an impatience among fair weather fans. The one excuse that is really valid is that Ime is a terrible offensive coach and none of them will meet their potential unless he improves or is replaced.
I saw a game last week, the Clippers vs the Lakers. And James Harden turned the ball over 3x's in the 4th Qtr. They were down by 4, 5, 6 pts but those turnovers cost them the game. Im use to Harden turning the ball over when he was here but the next day Tyrone Lue says it's guess what?? Due to fatigue!! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...AQFnoECDMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2H7l5dNYF5m867ZL125raj People don't understand the work load certain players endure when they have to bring the ball up court, facilitate, score, face double teams, then play defense. Basketball is a fast pace game, that's why players play 30 - 35 mins of a 48 minute game.
