Wow. RIP. He took over the house seat vacated by Jackson Lee who also died in office.

Alternate history: If Wayne Dolcefino had not slandered him (as found by a jury), he would have beat Bob Lanier in the 1991 election, and the Oilers would have never left town.

    Discuss . . . .

Not sure about the most corrupt part - Houston doesn't have classic organized crime like in Chicago or New York.... but it has long had lots of corruption when it comes to awarding of contracts and getting approval for business ventures. That has included city council members for the last 80 years at least.

Turner was no different really - the line was crossed from what I have heard from people involved in land development and contracted work. Similar things happened under the prior mayors as well, the difference with Turner is that he did not have as deeply entrenched people that were benefitting from sweetheart deals.

Damn, I can barely recognize him.

Then again, I don't see him on TV as much anymore since he's no longer the mayor of Houston.

He was a good guy and great supporter of Houston sports, especially the University of Houston's programs. You'd think that would be an obvious thing for Houston mayors to get behind, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case.

    RIP

When you pass away, what will people say about you?

I don't think he was the greatest mayor that ever lived but there can only be one "greatest" so that's no knock on him. Given that, I like him a whole lot better than John Whitmire who is simply a republican who ran as a democrat, which to me, makes him a hypocrite.

    RIP Turner.

Ya'll need to "cheel" with all of this hatred.

Dude loved the H. I dont see him as any more corrupt than any other Mayor before or after him. One thing above all is that the dude wanted that job. He ran multiple times until he finally won. Speaks volumes.

    RIP!
