would that short time period be like 10-20 years? Certain items would be 25-50% of items? Good to see all my predictions for this administration becoming reality.
I could stomach higher prices if it helped millions get affordable healthcare or something necessary. What I can't stomach is paying more for automobiles, and other goods because Trump is pissed off that Canada doesn't want to become a state. It's certainly not because of that 1.5% of fentanyl that came from Canada That's just BS. Trump just retaliates when he can't take stuff he wants, and taking other countries isn't something he should be doing anyway, especially when they have been one of our biggest allies and neighbors for decades.
lol, reminds me of invisible parroting the spin that it's unconscionable for the Fed to print money in thin air, QE then followed by another spin that the Fed is wrecking its balance sheet when in fact, it was implementing QT, which reduces the effect of QE
Donald Trump is not a serious person. Donald Trump also is pretty f*cking ignorant. When the Big 3 build a single car, it takes years of planning. Trump acts like the Big 3 can build a new plant and start production in said plant, all in a single month. It is like Trump does not have a single clue about how any of this works. Just like. At least, Trump gets to win the 24 hour news cycle for one day. And in the end, isn't that what is really important? Trump exempts Big 3 automakers from Canada, Mexico tariffs for 1 month U.S. President Donald Trump is giving the Big Three automakers a one-month exemption from sweeping tariffs he imposed on Canada and Mexico, the White House confirmed Wednesday. The exemption came after Trump held a call earlier Wednesday with representatives of Stellantis, Ford and General Motors at the request of the companies, which rely on North American production lines enshrined in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). "We are going to give a one-month exemption on any autos coming through USMCA," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, reading from a statement she attributed to Trump. "Reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2, but at the request of the companies associated with USMCA the president is giving them an exemption for one month so they are not at an economic disadvantage." Leavitt told reporters the reprieve was meant to give those companies time to shift investments to the U.S. Trump has repeatedly said he wants to boost the domestic auto manufacturing sector, using tariffs to move away from free trade routes. "He told (the Big Three companies) they should get on it, start investing, start moving, shift production here to the United States of America where they will pay no tariff. That's the ultimate goal," she said.
And then a month later, to have that same car cost $40K again, after Canada/Mexico do some trivial, meaningless thing which allows Trump to win a single 24 hour news cycle. Donald Trump is not a serious person.
I don't think we need to provide universal health care. There can be a barebones public option and subsided catastrophic universal healthcare for all. Instead of breaking it out in poverty measures, we break it out where we need help more - Increased child birth. If a woman knows she will always have coverage for her and her babies, they will be more inclined to give birth. We incentivize poor people to have babies, but we need middle class to start having more babies. Childcare is very expensive and many lower middle class who don't get other subsidies get priced out. So just give free healthcare to mothers and children, regardless. Those who are well to do won't be using the system anyways.
former Wall Streeter / hedge fund manager, Jim Cramer, has been one of the most pro-business TV personalities over the past 3+ decades. yesterday, Jim Cramer rips Trump 2.0 administration for ‘vast confusion’ over tariffs “There’s just vast confusion,” Cramer exclaimed on Tuesday’s “Squawk on the Street.” “No one knows — I mean, the automakers don’t know what this is going to mean. “There’s no clarity whatsoever,” he added. “Anyone who thinks that there’s clarity is just completely wrong.” a little later yesterday, clean up on isle 6. Trump could scale back Canada, Mexico tariffs Wednesday, Lutnick says
Give the big 3 automakers a month to adjust and move manufacturing to the states. What a ****ing idiot. Does he know how long it takes to start manufacturing a new vehicle. Years and then you have to find and train workers. And then you need to source out the supply train for the parts. What a ****ing idiot
His whole rhetoric on this is soooooo stupid. "They stole our manufacturing" "they stole our jobs" It's like does he really believes that?
He did propose something like this (not exactly). It’s not a hard no, but the math doesn’t work out. You end up losing more from economic downtrend. BTW, your number is off, but that's not the important point. A 3% flat tariff would bring in $120 billion. However, the cost of covering every child until 21 and all mothers during those times is around $1 trillion. A rough take on the economic impact of the 3% flat tariff across the board: GDP reduction: A 3% tariff could lower U.S. GDP by about $26.7 billion to $53.4 billion annually. Inflation: It would raise consumer costs by about $114 billion, contributing to an inflation increase of 0.5% to 1.0%. Job losses: Likely around 50,000 to 100,000 jobs in industries reliant on imports. Export revenue loss: Around $30 billion to $60 billion could be lost due to retaliatory tariffs. So, the $120 billion in tariff revenue wouldn't come close to covering the $1 trillion in healthcare costs, and the broader economic losses could be in the range of $200 billion to $300 billion annually. This would likely result in a net loss for the U.S. economy.
It has nothing to do with Canada becoming a state. He’s intimidated by Trudeau because he’s significantly better looking than him.
The Trump Administration is once again proving to be very chaotic. They make one decision, then they have to scale back because they didn't think things through. I imagine this one month extension will be extended further once it is explained to Trump that you can't expect these companies to shift operations over night. I mean, even if there are factories that they own currently not operating (I wouldn't know) getting operations started with such a short deadline it's silly. At the same time, once Trump won the presidency I imagine that these companies started planning to some extent, Trump was pretty damn vocal about the ERS and tariffs he wanted to impose.
She's totally oblivious to the differences between Europe and US. No one in Europe wants to be driving those trucks with hemis lol. It's too bad that the base that listens to this garbage is not aware of the world outside of the US and they eat up this garbage.
