When he reach the sixthyear, it will probably be written that next year he will be a player who can score 25 points regularly.
I'm not a Jalen apologist type. Still so far, he's actually been good after the All Star break . It just hasnt resulted in more team success. Green needs to keep it up, bring even more the last 20-25 games where the games truly matter, to get that elusive star credibility on having a good year
Spoiler It's crazy that as a coach you see this stark difference, and he's still your leader in minutes.
It's laughable the contract extension he was given. Totally undeserved and unwarranted. The worst part though was it was unnecessary at the time. And now we're unfortunately stuck with the consequences, a coach who must play a player who blatantly is not an overall positive for this team. As each game passes my signature stings more and more.
2 things yall don’t get - so if one of the worse lineups with JG is also the worse lineup for spacing cause paint is clogged with Amen / Alpi next is the Rockets aren’t much improved when he’s off the court - it’s Rockets 2nd unit is better than most opponents most nights (JG usually sits the same time the best scorer on other team sits) Alpi then eats against backup C Take the Holiday, Cam, Tari , Tate lineup that Ime loves to run and toss JG out there with … He lacks a creator that takes pressure off him, he either got to dribble past multi defenders to the rim, or take the 3 off the screen (he’s cut way back on stepbacks which has helped his eff.) but like always he has 1 bad game and yall come out the weeds
The difference between Jalen and Cade is staggering. Jalen's game all falls apart if he isn't scoring. He lets it affect his entire game. Not a good enough passer and playmaker to get by when his shot isn't falling. Poor defensive rotations and effort, especially after his numerous foolish live ball turnovers. He's just too mentally weak to be a consistently good player.
It's funny you say this, cause after every good game I see the same few people talk about how Jaters are silent and how people should finally understand his greatness. If you don't believe me you can go back and look at this thread history. It's the type of double standard and weirdly attachment to one particular player that makes this thread very funny to read.
you have folks who are realistic with expectations and see his growth in areas but also still acknowledge areas he needs to improve in you have folks who just don’t like him, who refuse to acknowledge any growth who only come into this thread when he has bad games but don’t do it when other players have a bad performance (those get annoying) as a Rocket fan you should want all players to succeed on the team but you can also critique all players because no one is perfect
He has played better offense since New Years, I'm glad his shooting has stabilized. He's still a near zero in the playmaking department relative to what a ball dominant guard should be giving you. However he has given almost all of it back on the defensive end. People say "man he's not that bad, people are making things up about his poor defense because they don't like him" when literally every number back ups how the team is clearly significantly worse defensively with him on the floor. There's isn't some clean flashy stat like PPG or FG% to make it as obvious how bad he's been.
Again, this kind of reasoning only works if the other side of the argument is also nuanced. If every time someone point out a deficiency in a player's game gets responded with "he's only 19/20/21/22yrs old" and "it's only 1/2/3/4/5 games and every player has bad stretches" and "well <insert another Rockets player> also didn't play well so why do you hate Jalen?" comments, then yes, the discussion becomes more comical and real.
when those same folks ignore data that shows that (JG) is averaging the same or better numbers over 3-6 month period or 82 games as the players they are consistently comparing to or saying is better while ignoring “ he’s younger in most cases” then that plays a factor into those responses
This is how I see it too. His defense looked to have improved in the early part of the season. Now he seems to have regressed. His offense on the other hand seems to be much more consistent and he is shooting with confidence. I would accept bad shooting games as long as it doesn't happen too often. Every player has bad shooting games.
I'm mostly pointing out the hilarity that the same defense used when he was 19 was getting reused at age 20 and then again at age 21 and so forth. Mostly because a lot of it also ignore the fact that some other comparisons were to players who played in the 80s and 90s where they were in college at this age. I just find it funny that's all. As for the averaging same or better number thing, as a guy who deals with numbers all day at my day job, it's one of those thing where using specific cutoff lines can make skew how people look at things. I personally don't like playing such numbers games myself, but people who eat up these twitter postings of last X games, and treat them as gospel, should really need to do some analytical thinking about why it's always some specific number of games rather than some generality, like "last season" or "this season." In comparison, Jalen last 62 games 21.4ppg/4.4rpg/3.4apg/0.8spg/0.3bpg .549 TS%, 35.7 3pt%, 82.7 FT%, Rockets record 37-25.
I don’t compare him to the 80-90s personality because I wished the NBA made players stay in college at least 3 years …. It was really rare a player had the size and skill to jump up to the NBA from HS I also feel AAU is ruining basic skills that would be cleaned up and developed in college anyway back to sample sizes - I like to do 1-3 month stretches between JG ANT Booker Mitchell as a gauge to his play - I keep in mind that hot or cold, he doesn’t get a chance to stat pad like the others
