It isn't unique to this country - all it takes is the proper conditions globally and locally and the right person to emerge.

It isn't really a cult as much as it is fascism and an opposition party that offers no real clear optimistic path.

I didn't watch it live (who has the time to listen to something that long?), but I feel like I've caught up. Here are my thoughts:

• Al Green was lame and it was the right move to throw him out. Also lol at the image of a 77-year-old shaking his cane at a rambling 78-year-old. We are cooked.
• Rofl at Republicans freaking out less than a week ago at Volodymyr Zelensky's signature fatigues in the Oval Office but saying nary a peep at MTG wearing a MAGA hat during this address. Shades of their faux outrage at Obama's tan suit.
• The "all you needed was a new president" line was good. Immigration is Trump's bread and butter and it's hard to deny that the Democrats lost the plot on that issue. Not clapping during the Laken Riley bit was politically tone deaf.
• Trump lies like the rest of us breathe air. So much of his "facts" and "figures" are pulled out of thin air that it felt like watching Stalin give a speech to the Politburo. No matter what Dear Leader says, the flunkies clap.
• Hearing GOP "free market" champions hold their noses and clap for tariffs that will hurt every day Americans and markets speaks to my point above.
• The threat of taking Greenland "one way or another" sure does sound like a threat of war against Denmark and NATO. But, hey, he wants peace!

 

The Democrats have been a weak an ineffective party for 50 years sans Clinton and Obama emerging.

At some point the Democrats need real leadership - as their lack of effectiveness is part of the reason that Trump won.

 

Slotkin: Trump is trying to deliver an unprecedented giveaway to his billionaire friends. He's on the hunt to find as many dollars as possible to pass along to the wealthiest in America. And to do that, he's going to make you pay in every part of your life.

Grocery and home prices are going up, not down, and he has not laid out a credible plan to deal with either of those. His tariffs on allies like Canada will raise prices on energy, lumber, and cars, and start a trade war that will hurt manufacturing and firms your premiums and prescriptions will cost more because the math on his proposals does not work without going after your health care. Meanwhile, for those keeping score, the national debt is going up, not down. And if he's not careful, he could walk us right into a recession.

And one more thing, in order to pay for his plan, he could very well come after your retirement. The social security, medicare, and V.A. Benefits you worked your whole life to earn. The president claims he won't, but Elon Musk just called social security to biggest Ponzi scheme of all time

This was a great, simple message. She stuck to the bread-and-butter issues while correctly pointing out that nothing Trump has done so far will help them and, if unchecked, he'll actively make them worse.
