Start him in AAA and tell him if he has an ops >900 after 50 pa he will be called up to be the everyday 3B or RF.
I like it, but if he is is going to win ROY and get us a 1st rd pick he might need those 50 PA's to put him over the top. Who are the favorites to win rookie of the year in the A.L. this year?
My top 5 would probably be: Kristian Campbell Jasson Dominguez Jacob Wilson Kumar Rocker Edgar Quero But yeah Smith could have a shot if Dana Brown thinks he’s ready, so that’s a good point and something I’m sure they’re considering. With that issue one thought I have is they can always have him break camp with the big league team and give him 200 pa to see how he does, and if he isn’t running away with ROY at that point they can send him down to buy another year. I also think Smith’s ROY chances would be quite a bit higher if he’s the everyday 3B rather than RF.
I see Whitcomb had an error at 3B today Obviously no reason to be concerned but we are hoping he improves there.
Vegas Odds Dominguez +380 Roman Anthony +550 Kristian Campbell+800 Jacob Wilson +800 Jackson Jobe +900
Defensively it will end up better with him in LF than 2B. Altuve wasn't good defensively at 2B last year. His range was really bad.
Episode 93 of breathing orange fire is up. We talk Astros prospects. I’m very mean to Keith Law. Will make @Nook sad. He shouldn’t listen. first half is what’s the point of a farm system and analyzes how Astros have done. Second part is actual Astros prospects. Listen, subscribe, rate, forward to Keith Law, enjoy.
I wish someone would just do what Andrew said the current system doesn’t do and what you tried to do on the fly - create backward-looking rankings. Which systems have produced the most WAR by year/era? Maybe they have but I haven’t seen it? The fundamental issue you were arguing about is whether the current ranking methodology overvalues possible 5-war guys and ignores all the 2-3 war ones because rankers assume it is easy to develop those types. You say it is harder to continually churn out those guys than it seems. That makes sense to me, but regardless - this is knowable. We have the old rankings and the current WAR. I’m too lazy to do it, but someone surely will or has. If you establish that some systems are better at that than others, you can still evaluate all players individually, but then put a multiplier on the total system to account for aggregated probabilities based on past performance. Anyway, good listen. One day you’ll get back under 2 hours.
Next episode tidy 1 hour. Or 3. Who knows. The last 3 episodes should all have been 2 episodes a piece. Pitchers. Then catchers and bullpen. Infield. Then outfield. What is a farm then how the astros are doing. The 6 weeks off hurt. Maybe we will start breaking them up and doing more episodes.
If Smith breaks with the Astros, 12% bb, 24% k, .240 ISO, 143 wRC+ would be the bar. Those would be roughly in line with Kris Bryant’s first 3 seasons. Astros should not be wasting his service time unless they think he’s gonna be badass from the get go. LF Altuve 2B Paredes DH Alvarez 1B Walker 3B Smith C Diaz RF McCormick SS Pena CF Meyers Bench: Dubon, Caratini, Gamel, Guillorme I like it.
Keith Law is a very good and nice person. If you want to discuss cooking recipes or board games, books or politics- he is your man. When it comes to prospects and player evaluating- I told him he has become an old man.
