I can’t argue with Dillon’s shooting efficiency this season, but I’ll never like that he’s such a black hole and poor passer. And I just don’t see him as a huge defensive difference maker anymore.

I used to be worried about Dillon blocking our other wings, but with Tari’s lingering injury and Cam’s questionable attitude, I’m in no hurry to trade him.

I think Dillon is the most replaceable of all our guys, though I appreciate what he brings to us. He’s just not a ceiling-raiser type of player, with his lack of passing instincts and his tendency to bring out the best in our opponents.

Dillon is a luxury and a mainstay on a real veteran contender.......where he is contained and gets limited minutes.

Also in a perfect world, you have Ron Artest over him in the pecking order.

Dillon is a double-edged sword. When he locks down the opposing team's best player, he can really change the game. But if he screws up, all that trash talk just wakes the monster up and flips the script on us. The main issue is that his defense isn’t consistent, which is his best trait besides the occasional shooting spree. Honestly, I'd trade him for a wing who can shoot better or similar to him and actually play team ball with our younger guys. He damages team chemistry, acting like a total black hole and not stepping up as a veteran should. Bad example for the prospects.

Absolute nonsense. Dillon's usage rate is the lowest of the starters aside from Bari. He's far from a "black hole."

It's still amazing to me that people act like Brooks - who has been the best shooter in the team for 2 years running at a bargain price - is easily replaceable with a better 3&D player either currently on the roster or anywhere else.

    There isn't one currently.

When I say he's a black hole, I mean that he's too focused on shooting or going 1vs1 that he lacks any situational awareness. We already have our core players who can carry that load as we prepare them for the future, so his usage rate should be low. Frankly, his trash talk does more harm than good for the team. Just take a look at how DeMar torched us with his mid-range game after beefing with Dillon. This isn't the first time that he has reversed the situation against us like this.

I dont think Dillon is much of an issue. Hes a certified role player. Role players are always going to have some warts and holes in their game. IMO, the glaring issue with this team is there is no go-to star player(s). None of the young guys have taken that leap to certify themselves as that type of player and so role players like Dillon get a bigger spotlight than they should.

Theres threads and posts talking about Jabari and Fred being the difference between wins and losses. Two other certified role players. Role players are important but damn...if you think your season has gone into the shitter because a guy like FVV has gone down youve probably got bigger fish to fry.

Yes because otherwise Demar DeRozan would never have started shooting mid-range jumpers

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Again, I don’t agree with this at all. He very rarely goes “1x1,” and he should shoot considering he’s averaging .39 from 3. What’s happening is you’re too close to the situation — every time Brooks does anything, you notice it.

I don't think his great shooting season makes up for his current salary, especially when you look at his defensive inconsistencies and lack of team play.He can't rebound either, which is another problem. Someone like Dyson Daniels would be a huge upgrade over Dillon and fit our timeline better. We need a role player who can help maximize our young core's potential, and I just don't see how Dillon does that. He's mostly on the roster to be the veteran presence and set a good example for our core, but is he really doing that?

I never said that, but it's not a good idea to wake a sleeping giant. DeMar was more aggressive after his confrontation with Dillon, and he was motivated to play harder. This is just a fact.

Yeah I stopped reading - this just tells me you, like others, have crystallized your understanding of what "overpaid" means a decade ago

Times have changed, the salary cap has risen.

He's basically making slightly less than what Trevor Ariza made back in the day (8m) as a % of the cap.

I don't know if teams called about Brooks this trade deadline season, but if not it's because the Rockets would have laughed & hung up the phone. 3&D wings who can shoot well & guard up or down at a 21m price point(which decreases each year!) is basically - Brooks and almost nobody else not on a rookie deal.

Lu Dort? He's at about the same price. It's not like he's available.

Maybe Herb Jones who is out for the season & only played 20 games is a better value. Again, he's not available.

Who is your "better player" that is available - Kentavious Caldwell Pope? Dorian Finney Smith? Nick Batum?

I'm surprised Brooks is getting any criticism. He's exactly what we need. He's shooting well from 3. He's defense is solid. He's on a contract that's nowhere near a max, and he'll never demand a max. He's not ball dominant and is a great tone setter for Ime's style. When you look at the breakdown of our best lineups, pretty much all involve Brooks.

In my opinion, the lineup of Amen / Green / Brooks / Bari / Sengun is the best mix of offense and defense. Plus, it puts our best prospect - Amen - in the best spot to succeed. In that vein, Brooks has been perfect, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's eventually extended.

The larger question is FVV. If we have the guts to let him walk, we would really have the ability to lock in Bari, Tari, and Amen.
